Program Gets Better Each Year - But Caveat

TurboTax gets better every year. it copies your information from last year quickly, and has access to It's Deductible to figure charitable donations of many items. Sometimes it toots its own horn, indicating how much I've saved. BUT - it almost missed a big tax credit. New York State gives a 20% credit for long-term care insurance premiums. When doing my NYS tax, it did ask about whether I met two situations where I'd get a credit. I didn't. I met a third situation, which it did not ask me about. Luckily, I knew to go back to my Federal itemized deductions and enter it there, even though I didn't have enough medical expenses to qualify for an itemized medical deduction. If I didn't know, I'd have been messed up. It is difficult to contact TurboTax and tell them. But in general I like the program; it is so much easier than doing taxes by hand, especially if you make a change.
What's great about it: copies over information from last year; easy when making changes
What's not so great: Still have to know what you are doing - I found a problem

This year I am less confident in my returns than in previous years. More topics made less sense. Did not like previewing my returns and seeing my direct deposit info on the 1040 was blank. A heads up that this information would be filled in on a later screen would have been useful. Also, had to answer questions about the state in which some incomes was earned on investements and no clue how to answer this.
What's great about it: Easy, step by step process
What's not so great: More confusing thie year.

Too Slow...Too much hype

This year it was a trial...slow and full of hype...the more complex areas could hve been better explained...actually use too much Governmenteze language right out of the IRS.
Keeps me from doing what I really like...as often as I like. (see photo)
What's great about it: Basics are there...past experiences better
What's not so great: Slow...tried to sell over and over...

Excellent product

I have been very happy with Turbo Tax since 2004. I have done plenty of stocks and bond purchases and sales, accounted for stock options, mutual funds, etc. with way lesxs issues than I normally get from the software I have to deal with at work (wiich as fa4r as I can tell, is dealing with issues that are the same complexity or simpler than the US Tax Code).
A paliner English explanation of what the AMT calcualation was based on in one's specific circumstances would be appreciated by me, at the very least.
What's great about it: easy to enter data and run - excellent error checks
What's not so great: no after the fact explanation of the specifics of more complicated issues (e.g. AMT)

Since my CPA company decided to increase the fees to prepare, my sister said she had used Turbo tax. I bought it and it did the job!

It was good but I would have like on-line support. I had a simple question that I had to word it several different ways to get my answer.
What's great about it: It stepped me thru each area one by one.
What's not so great: I couldn't ask simple questions.

Excellent program; I will use it again next year.
What's great about it: Easy to enter information---importing Broker info big time saver and increases accuracy
What's not so great: Difficult to enter K-1 detailed info
Pros: I bought or sold investments
