The easiest yet in 22 yrs!!

I have been using turbo tax for as long as I have been doing taxes, as business person, personnel property owner and real estate and property manager. i really get easier every year as the folks at Turbo Tax continue to improve the program!
What's great about it: The guided system made is easy to required record info.
What's not so great: NONE

Avoided tedious arithmetic

Overall - good. However, the system should allow user to provide all info for a single item with that item rather than break down a single item into 2 entries for 1 1099. I opted to pay extra taxes (not much) because I was running out of time, and it was worth paying the taxes rather than add a 'phony' 1099 and alter a real 1099.
What's great about it: Saved a lot of time preparing returns
What's not so great: Nuisance creating 2 entries for 1 item for state tax purposes

Being able to download info from investment brokers is a huge plus. But I'm never able to log on to Vanguard and the attempt always locks me out, so I have to go back to Vanguard and reset my login info.
What's great about it: format is good and the navigation has improved from 2011 version.
What's not so great: some info doesn't download from my investment brokers.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Easy State return

Loved how easy the return was. Wish I could have purchased a kit with State filing and avoided the extra fee for e-file on the State .
What's great about it: All the info transferred from my federal return

Not as bad as I anticipated.

Overall, very good. I would not hesitate to recommend this to a friend and will use it again next year.
State taxes were the hardest (Ohio), and required a call to straighten out something that wasn't clear (School taxes). Federal taxes were easy.

What's great about it: Ease of use. Clarity of instructions. Forgiving of mistakes.
What's not so great: Difficult to know where you are in the return when doing State taxes. State school system information murkey.

Six years as a Turbo Tax User

Turbo Tax has improved their program year after year. The program asks you a series of questions that the vast majority of tax payers will need and shows you what deductions are allowed and what percentage of the tax break you can claim automatically. The help section does tell you why you did not qualify for the full deduction.
Automatic updates help when launching the program so you have the latest information while preparing your taxes.
The help section could be improved with a better user interface to answer some questions that do not have an easy keyword search.
The ultimate improvement would be a way to automatically input the tax data you need form W2s,1099s, and mortgage info so to speed up the tax preparation time and reduce some typos entering in the data.
Overall, I am very pleased on the evolution of Turbo Tax over the years ads will contiue to use the program to complete my taxes in the future.
What's great about it: Easy step by step questions written in plain English.
What's not so great: The Help forum could be improved with an easier user interface.
