Ease of Use

I heve been using TurboTax for many years. I used to have my taxes done by a CPA but found out he was using TurboxTax and I had to spend allot of money to have a third party do my taxes. Since then I have been using TurboTax which is more cost effective.
What's great about it: I liked the comprehensive analysis and its ease of use.

Overall this is a great way to do your personal taxes. Even though I have investment income this is still a good tool for me to use.
What's great about it: very easy to use, walks you through every step of a return whether it is simple or complex
What's not so great: not always sure if I should be answering yes or no to some questions

Good feeling when completed the return, but ttrying to get the cash contributions on sched A was not intuitive.
I knew where it had to end up but had a hard time getting info in the worksheet.

2012 Turbo Tax

Having used 2011 Turbo Tax last year made pulling up information really easy. This year,we did an energy saving install that was complicated to get onto the forms. Says question about solor will be asked later but it NEVER asks. In addition, we share the mortgage interest and refinanced last year so the deductible points would not let us put in the points for the previous loan. Had to switch to form entry to get this done. If I never prepared my taxes manually on my own before, this would be madness and I would lose that deduction based solely on the EASY entry route.
What's great about it: If you used it last year, its easy
What's not so great: Sharing deductible items with another filer get complicated

It was a blast doing my taxes on TurboTax

It took me less than two hours to do my complex Tax Return that included two states. I also did my daughters tax return which also included two states.
I have been doing my taxes on TurboTax for last 12 years and I would not trade any other software for TurboTax. Every year it gets better and better.
Thank you TurboTax for making my life easier
What's great about it: I did a very complex Tax Return with two states for myself and my daughter
What's not so great: No deals to buy multiple states. Only one state comes with the Fedral software

I have been using TurboTax for at least 5 years...usually buying the disc.
Never had a major problem or been audited, but I started to do my own preparation because our return had become much simpler to the point we are usually taking the standard deductions.
Shortcomings (my opinion only).
I did not buy the disc in 2011...used the online version. I just could not see a way to bring my 2011 information back, so I could use it in the 2012 prep. I signed on using information kept from 2011. If transfer is a possiblility, the process is not clear and/or easy.
I was surprised at the end to learn that my payment included a penalty/interest. We paid over 92% of the amount owed. I thought that the IRS criteria was just that one had made a "good faith" effort to satisfy the expected amount owed.
Lastly, I think it is strange that the program asks if I want to do my state return. With all the information given, I think the program should "know" that I'm in a state with no state income tax. I wonder if it would let me continue and pay more for my state return. I don't want to explore and pay to find out.
