There is no way I would be able to get through three returns each year by myself. Even as our joint returns have bee getting more complicated, Turbotax has always been simple and clear.I especially appreciate the assistance to value our non-cash charitable contributions and the various analyses to determine our eligibility for deductions and credits. We will continue to be a loyal Turbotax customer.
What's great about it: thorough, accurate, helpful walk-thru
What's not so great: difficult to speed through non-relevant topics

Another Easy Tax Return!
on April 7, 2013
Posted by: LuckOIrish
I have used TurboTax for more then 5 years, and it is truly a timesaver! It takes me three to four hours to file (Federal and State), compared to 6+ hours without TurboTax. It's great to have the info from last year transferred over (time saver). I can print out my returns and save with my paperwork. No audits to date. Clean, simple, straightforward.
What's great about it: Simple step by step walkthrough, makes doing taxes as painless as possible
What's not so great: Some areas need additional explanation
Pros: I moved

Federal taxes - easy/ State taxes - hard
on April 7, 2013

As always, the federal taxes were very easy. The most difficult part was to collect the data. I also liked how TurboTax is integrated with Quicken, as well as how TurboTax can import data from the financial institutions that I use. My one complaint is that it's always more difficult to do the state taxes. It doesn't seem like the support/ help section is complete and specific to each state. I know this is a huge effort to have the support staff x50 states, but it would make the tax filing process much easier.
What's great about it: easy of use, completeness with help, search features, error check
What's not so great: state taxes refund features
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I have been using this product for more than 10 years. As tax filing gets more and more complex, TurboTax keeps it easy.
I would not be able to do my taxes on my own without TurboTax!
What's great about it: Transfers data from previous years and downloads data from finanical institutions and your W2s
What's not so great: It's all good!

Have used for years, could be better
on April 7, 2013

Overall, I will continue to use TurboTax, as I have for many many years. It has served me very well. It's accurate. It has all of the options for printing, saving and submitting returns, and it's friendly enough to get returns done in a reasonable time.
What I've discovered is a few cases where improvements could be made:
Limits on Schedule A: It would be nice if, based on data already submitted, you could see what the raw number needed would be for things like Casualties and Thefts, Home Office Deductions, Medical Expenses, etc. In the current product, you have to go through a long and detailed entry process, only to discover that your expenses were not even close to making a difference on your tax return.
Changes from last year: This year, my wife and I hit the magical (and nasty# middle-class tipping point where some major things we deducted in 2011 were no longer allowed at our 2012 income level. It would have been nice for TurboTax in 2011 to alert us that a limit might be reached in 2012, so we could have adjusted our witholding. It also would have been nice to have TurboTax in 2012 alert us right away, as soon as we entered our income, that some 2011 things were no longer available.
Homebuyer credit repayment for 2008 homebuyers: Handling of this was incomplete in 2012, even though we imported the 2011 return prepared in TurboTax, which had reflected all necessary info. I had to go back to the 2011 return to gather the info needed for this to be processed correctly.
Home office calculations: There is a point where TurboTax tells you to print out form 4684, and re-do a calculation through line 18 manually with slightly different values. This seemed odd, since TurboTax had all of the information necessary already.
Relating step-by-step help to form views: When switching to Form view, it seems that it would be helpful to see the screen#s) in Step-By-Step which fed the data to the current form field.
What's great about it: Calculates and finds things I would have missed
What's not so great: Still areas for improvement

I have used Turbo tax for a number of years now. It makes an unwanted task less daunting. It is relatively easy -asks me a question I answer and move on. My nephew has lived with me the last few years and it has been helpful in indicating when and if I can claim him as a dependent. I don't worry about making a mistake.
What's great about it: Save information form the year before cutting down on time needed to file the return.

I really enjoy the ease of TurboTax. I used to spend forever researching what forms I needed to claim this or that. TurboTax does this for you are makes it easy to claim your largest possible refund!
What's great about it: Made it easy to identify all refunds
What's not so great: some sections were a little confusing as to what could be claimed.
