Several Errors Found
on April 6, 2013
Posted by: DJA55
I would not have caught these errors, but my itemized deductions looked too high. So, I started checking the forms manually.
I found several errors when checking the worksheets. One error involved a duplication on the 2011 State & Local Tax Section of the Federal Carryover Worksheet. Also, in the same section, I found the wrong amount entered under (c) Estimates Pd After 12/31. For the first time since using Turbo Tax for many years, I had to manually edit the worksheets to get the correct information.
I went back multiple times to review what I had entered under easy step, but could find no entry errors.

I've been using TurboTax for many years. It's easy to use and I've never had any problems. I wouldn't do my taxes any other way.

Great To Use

It's a great program and I recommend it all of the time. Just don't like that it prints differently this year. Also it doesn't save every answer - it should save every answer instead of having to answer the same questions again when you to back into it. Some questions are saved but some are not.
What's great about it: Very user friendly - walks you through step by step and easy to naviagate
What's not so great: Printing process changed - like to click print not print from the review

Since we all have to pay taxes, this is a simplified program that is very cost effective and straight forward and you don't have to be an accountant to complete the process.
What's great about it: Easy directions with the ability to catch mistakes so that they can be effectively corrected
What's not so great: It is a time consuming process to enter in all the data

We're used turbo-tax for many years with great success.
What's great about it: Questions prompt me so I don't miss anything.
What's not so great: sometimes hard to find the form I want to see.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Works for me, but there were a frew annoyances.

i've been using this software for 6 years - ever since my returns involved more than the 1040 and schedule B. It makes it very easy when all of the information is retained and carried forward year to year. Plus I've never had any major problems.
Minor problems and annoyances, yes.
1. Every so often Turbo tax requires me to upgrade my computers operating system for features they claim are important but that I never use.
2. Some of the questions asked about tax situations don't re-appear if I want to go back an review my answer after saving the return. I don't recall a specific example.
3. It's deductible has some quirks: A. Adding donation items with "It's deductible" doesn't allow you to add multiple items in one pass. Ofter using OK to enter an item it takes you back to where you have to click on Edit.
B. It also doesn't allow you to edit quantities. if you make a mistake you have to delete and re-add the item.
C. If it doesn't have a suitable matching item description in its list there should be a way to manually create one.
D. Some of the values seemed a bit high to me but there was not a way to lower them.
4. For my State return, it seemed to have added amount of PA Use Tax paid for 2011 to the PA State Tax refund amount when importing data from 2011. I determined this because the refund amount it imported was too large - the difference was exactly the amount I had paid for Use Tax. Perhaps this was fixed in an update applied later, but once I manually corrected the amount, the error did not appear again. . If I had not checked this against my paper copies from 2011 I might have been paying tax on that extra amount.
What's great about it: Simple to use - either guided or following my own path
What's not so great: The few problems noted below.
