Like it over all, Good options for viewing and doing the return. Allocations to different states was messy, It tried to led me, but wording of how to do was not real clear. Had to go to forms to work it out.
What's great about it: Does Fed well. Like its mostly easy path to completion
What's not so great: repeats in places if changing one thing
Pros: I moved

A simple walk through the park
on April 15, 2013

The comfort in knowing that all considerations and pitfalls have been taken into account is essential to a stress free process. As a user for over 15 years, the consistency from year to year, along with the ability to easily view multiple years and see trends is very powerful from a family financial planning perspective. Unless you have some extraordinary or complex financial situation ( I guess congratulations are in order then) Turbo Tax is really the best way to get what can be a somewhat painful process completed without the stress,
What's great about it: As it always has been for over 15 years for me, the process is simple and complete.
What's not so great: None that I can think of
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Disappointed with 2012 Version
on August 24, 2013

Overall, I will still chose Turbotax as the software tax product of choice. As a very long time customer (at least 27+ years), the 2012 deluxe version was disappointing. Had to override the calculation for the total state income tax paid - the step by step did cover the current year payment with an extension, but would not carry over onto the Schedule A. A refund was due and banking account info did not automatically load onto the 1040 form. Coverage lacking on handling a refinance of a rental property. I had purchased two copies of Turbotax Deluxe with 1 free state tax download each. However, it would not recognize and allow me to do the 2nd state tax download for free with the 2nd version. Even after a complete uninstall and removal of the first installation. Please make the 2013 tax version better.
What's great about it: Good overall step by step assistance
What's not so great: Did not include state extension payment or direct deposit info
Pros: I bought or sold investments

EASY TO USE!
on August 25, 2013

This program is very detailed in the questions it asks especially with obscure forms, and it's easy to switch between screens (both forward and back). I also like how it will import all your W-2 info as long as your employer filed theirs electronically. I will definitely use this for next years taxes.

my taxes
on August 25, 2013

Been a multi year user of Turbo Tax. I like the merging of data from previous year's files. I am looking forward to starting to use Quicken again and being able to draw information from the accounting software into Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: appreciate the download of profile information from the previous year
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Comments on TurboTax after Using for 5 Years
on August 25, 2013

Although Turbo Tax stated this was 1 error. I knew that I could not put false information down. Therefore, it would not allow me to e-file. I was very frustrated because there was no place for explaining my situation.
What's great about it: It is very easy and informative.
What's not so great: Could not e-file. Did not receive 1098. Working out a foreclosure.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Almost Smooth!
on September 24, 2013

Good, standard Turbo Tax. However, a couple of not so smooth items. Its Deductible required me to double-click on entry boxes for items, then click outside the box to actually have the 'enter this item' box light up. Several times, I clicked on the done box instead, and was thrown right back to the charitable entity screen, and had to re-enter the date. I couldn't find any option to just add my own items/values for donated items not listed.
I was really thrown off when I clicked on the Electronic Filing button and was then told to review and enter zip codes on a non-existant W-2 form. I still don't know what that was all about.
What's great about it: Always easy to use and can be relied upon
What's not so great: Its Deductible annoying this year and a review of a non-existant W-2 really threw me off
Pros: I bought or sold investments
