2012 Turbo Tax Delux

The program got very difficult at the end, epecially in the printing and e-filing part. Was NOT user friendly at all, instead it kept asking "survey questions" about the program. Should be an easier way out of all this.
This program was the hardest to use of all the last three years, on just a simple 1040 return for an old retired couple. Like WHY did it ask for an Employeer address when I am retired?
Why are nicknames of grumpy, unhappy, sorry all taken?

What's great about it: Ask all the right questions for deuctions
What's not so great: e-filing very difficult for 2012 version

2 State Returns

Difficult it separate the individual income amounts received and deductions. For example, in the Federal return you enter the individual charities you gave to and add them up to get a total. If you do 2 state returns because you moved in that year you have to go back and try to figure out when you gave to put the right values in for each state. Similar situation for income and taxes paid. Would have been nice if the programs could be such that you do both state returns side by side or together .
What's great about it: Transfer from Federal Return
What's not so great: Separating individual income & expenses
Pros: I moved, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

tad disappointed

Things went great through the federal return, but when trying to start the state return, turbo tax simply couldn't get beyond the "download state" step. I had to exit turbo tax, restart my computer, manual point to my federal saved copy and restart state processing. That is the only way I could get the state return started and processed.
What's great about it: walked me through steps
What's not so great: transition from fed to state didn't work!

Tip for the Retired

Have to search several work pages to find the box (almost hidden) that states "We have no W-2's" which must be checked or holds up the transmission at the very last step. A real pain at the end!!
What's not so great: Too many references to W-2's that not only pop up but halt work

Easy to use

LOVE this program! My only complaint is that you have the online version which is good for some people, but the way the websit is set up, it almost forces you into using this option. It was harder for me to find how to download the software and pay up front this year. My main reason for doing this is because it gathers information from my previous year's return which saves me time.
Once I finally figured out how to download the software, it was a great experience as usual.
What's great about it: easy, user friendly
What's not so great: now with online option it is harder to figure out how to download the software

my turbotax experience

For several years now since 2008 I have used TurboTax to do my Federal and New York taxes. It is easy and quick. I like the baby steps approach since it gives me confidence I've looked at everything. Since I've retired my returns are simple but I still use Turbotax to make sure, even though I could do it myself with little hassle. I really like the e-file since it saves me time and postage. Thanks TurboTax for making tax time more pleasant, as much as you can.
What's great about it: quick and easy
