Carryover of Foreign Tax Credit

My question about how to use a carryover of a foreign tax credit was never answered. Turbo Tax ought to say that a carryover cannot be used in a given year when no other foreign tax was paid or due. It's that simple, so say it! Making the mistake of entering the unused portion of a foreign tax paid in a previous year, as I did, results in an endless loop of frustration. It took me two days to finally guess what to do and then, mysteriously, Turbo still files Form 1116 even though the unused portion of a foreign tax paid cannot be used unless foreign tax is paid this year. The point is made clear deep inside Publication 154. Filing Form 1116 does not appear to be necessary so why does Turbo Tax do it anyway?
What's great about it: There is nothing good about Turbos handling of this problem
What's not so great: Publication 154 is extremely long. Turbo did not help

I have used Turbo Tax for years and I am always happy with the outcome. I never feel like I left money on the table.

Great program. I wish there was a check list of the papers I need in the order I need them at the start of the program. Even without the list it only took 3 hrs. to collect the data and file. My refund is on the way.
What's great about it: Easy
What's not so great: No list of papers needed.

Other than having to scroll down the screen after each step, this program takes the "pain" out of having to calculate and type in every little detail.
What's great about it: No stress
What's not so great: Having to scroll down after each step and having to click "Next"

MAC Interface

first time i have used TurboTax with a MAC and it was not well designed. i had to manipulate the right hand margin of the documents to display the strip to enable me to cursor up and down. up and down arrows did not function. very user unfriendly.
What's great about it: TurboTax is TurboTax. comprehensive and easy to understand.
What's not so great: working through the screens was very cumbersome
