Great Product

I've been using Turbotax for many years now and can't imagine doing it any other way ever again. It's so easy to use, just pop in the information as the interview progresses. It's easier than having someone else do it because you don't even have to leave the house.
What's great about it: Easy to use guided completion of returns
What's not so great: Almost too easy! Did I forget something??
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Just one annoyance

I put some info in to determine whether or not miscellaneous expenses (form 2106) would qualify for deduction. They did not. But I was not able to file electronically until I deleted the entire form. It took me a while to figure out how to handle this.
What's great about it: All in all Turbotax has worked well for me for many years
What's not so great: "catch 22" with some information

Good for standard situations

Very good for normal situations but very confusing to inadequate for foreign earned income by self employed business or for resident of foreign country. Must do override for social security tax to avoid double taxation for resident of foreign country.
What's great about it: saves records from prior years
What's not so great: doesn't handle foreign residents with US and foreign income well

Works as you would expect

It isnt perfect, but sure is a great product. Hard to beat TurboTax!
What's great about it: Very thorough Q&A for basic personal return
What's not so great: Not enough info for more complicated return questions (i.e. divorce issues, starting a business, etc)

Sooooo Easy!

I've trusted Turbo Tax for years with my money! I did try a friend's different program for income tax and panicked in the middle of it. I went back to Turbo tax.
What's great about it: TurboTax won't let you make a mistake. Sort of Spooky. Like it knows more about you than you!
What's not so great: Nothing. Honest.

Turbo Tax worked well for my straightforward taxes.
What's great about it: Intuitive. Excellent mailing instructions on printout. Easy to save draft.
What's not so great: Hard to find answers to questions. Hard to review sections without having to re-answer questions.

I depend on the step-by-step guidance to ensure that nothing is overlooked. It also serves as an index that allowed me to go back to review and update any section later. The ability to set flags to allow a direct return to places where I needed to make updates was also very convenient.
I did not import anything from outside, but the ability to import and compare with the previous year's return saved a lot of time and helped me understand why my itemized deductions were different. In the donations section, however, although it allowed me to indicate everything that still applied from last year, it only seeded four items. I had to enter the rest over again.
A huge savings in time and effort compared to doing my return without TurboTax was the automatic calculation of alternatives, such as itemized deductions, allowing TurboTax to select the more beneficial option but still provide me with the ability to override the automatic choice. The calculation of the Alternative Minimum Tax, which I have to do every year to prove I don't owe it, is the 600-lb gorrilla of my tax calculation effort.
The transfer of data to the state return is painless and error-free in TurboTax, especially with all the "Explain this" tips so I could find out what the words and acronyms on the forms really meant.
The only disappointment was that so many screens of summary or confirmation information were unprintable. When I selected any print option, it only allowed me to print the tax forms, not the handy summary that I was looking at.
The running tally of my tax due and refund amount was motivation to keep feeding it the zillions of details it needed, but also allowed me to know that when I entered something it had the expected effect. A couple times, I typed in data that was not in fact captured because I was interrupted before I finished, and the unchanged tally tipped me off that I needed to repeat that section.

I love this program! I will not use another! I am always suggesting Turbo Tax to others every year.
What's great about it: I like that you can now go through at your own pace and skip around instead of having to go in order.
