Basis Amends

The only hard thing about this was getting past the e-file status problem. For 2010 I used the form method and added the 1040X then it let me amend the return. This did not work for 2011 so I printed and mailed the returns to get past the e-file status problem.
What's great about it: Could access prior years' returns and amend
What's not so great: Turbo Tax did not recognize e-file of 2010 and 2011 returns
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Easy User Interface

I have been using TurboTax for several years now. It has improved steadily. I like the ease of the user interface and the expert advise. It gives confidence at every step of a complex process. Love the overall spirit of "just in time" help: it is lite hand-holding without being overtly directive/intimidating.
What's great about it: Ease with expertise

Possibly be able to ask all the foreign account questions in the beginning of the work instead of spaced out through the entire process. Possibly be able to have the Turbo Tax check the return as the info is being processed and not have to return to a section to correct any errors.

Difficulties

Problems occur when using the tool to prorate the income from dividends & capital gains--Form 2210. Also, not good in handling non-taxable interest. It skipped some information I had to go back and find. Some thngs from last year were incorrectly entered on this year's form.
What's great about it: Arithmetic was correct

Wish there was a better job up front of asking for missing information instead of waiting for the end review for it.
What's great about it: Step by step stuff was good.
What's not so great: Some of the explanations of stuff wasn't great.

My tax situation changed significantly this year. Last year I was a homeowner, had higher income etc. Turbo Tax guided me through these changes very easily. Thank you !
