Federal Good - State Bad

Very happy with the Federal portion of Turbo Tax. The biggest advantage is downloading 1099s from broker accounts. If we had to fill out all that by ourselves it would be a nightmare.
Not happy with State portion of Turbo Tax. Turbo Tax never gives us the married filing jointly credit for the State of Ohio taxes. We had to file through the Ohio website. It made a difference of paying $253 when filing with Turbo Tax and getting a $40 refund when filing on-line at the State of Ohio website. This had happened for at least the last 3 years. So getting the State filing included when purchasing Turbo Tax is a waste of money for us.
What's great about it: Being able to download 1099-DIV & 1099-INT from source
What's not so great: State of Ohio Filing always wrong

The list of items to be addressed before each section is very helpful and increases efficiency. The HSA section was a little confusing. I had to go through it twice before I realized where to input a personal contribution versus an employer contribution - it is under "other".
What's great about it: Step by step questions make it easy to complete.
What's not so great: I dislike all the upsales

Definitely worth it!

I've used this for many years and have never experienced any problems. Being able to import W-2's from employer electronic providers is very helpful and a nice addition within the last couple years. Every year, more and more are being added to the list. This year I purchased Deluxe with state included, but decided to not file the state through the software. I took the information provided in the completed forms by the software and used it to file for free directly with the state website. I would like to see the software updated to utilize the same functionality as the states when filing and pass similar costs on to the user. In this case, free filing for the state.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: State filing cost should be the same as filing directly with the state

Colorado Form 104 Broken

Year after year I make the same comment, and year after year Turbo Tax ignores it. Program works great for my return. For my kids with income under the taxable income threshold, not so much. This year my child's taxable income is $300 below the threshold. On the Federal form it correctly enters $0 for taxable. On the Colorado Form 104 the program blithely carries it across as -$300.00 which triggers a reject if I don't catch it and override. Fix it already!
What's great about it: Turbo Tax works great for most taxpayers
What's not so great: Not so good for Colorado kids
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Quick and Easy

I've used TurboTax for many years now, and it's never failed to impress me. It's always proved very accurate, and I always get the maximum refund.
What's great about it: Quick and accurate
