Mostly easy

We have used TurboTax since it was MacInTax. Most of the information is directly imported. The calculations are updated with each entry. Very easy to use. But I did get tired of repeatedly entering some information that applied to several pages. For example, I left one job and took another, and I had to enter dates of employment, etc. for each city's taxes. And it kept asking about my wife's employment dates, when she didn't work in either city. Once would have been more than enough. Otherwise it makes doing our taxes almost tolerable.
What's great about it: Walks you through each step, Reminds you of things you might have forgotten. Makes an onerous process tolerable.
What's not so great: Only limited donations priced on its Deductible, couldn't find a way to add in the articles it doesn't cover.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Spared the Stress

I have used TurboTax for ten years with confidence. State and Federal laws and forms are up to date and I don't have to stress so much about understanding and using them. The risk meter helps me feel better about my chances for audit as well. I trust TurboTax to compare my taxes to the thousands of others filed when showing my risk.
What's great about it: Showed me many options that I wouldn't have thought of and the risks.
What's not so great: Somewhat difficult to compare details of deductions from previous years.

great step by step

Great step by step process. Hugh problem, I did not save as I was going through because I thought that was being done automatically. I close without saving and the app did not even ask me if I wanted to save it. I lost 4 hours of work.
What's great about it: very detailed and allowed review at every step
What's not so great: allowed me to close app without saving lost 4 hours of work.

Cost was a little high but definitely cheaper than having to go somewhere else to have them done.
Our kids are grown and we don't have the deductions we used to have so the guidance from turbo tax helps so I don't forget something important that would cause us to pay more.

Using Turbo Tax yearly gives me confidence that I have done it right. There is a certain consistency with the language and terms throughout the system that makes me feel comfortable in using this software. The encouragement which is built into the system is also helpful. Even when I have completed the tax form and submitted my taxes I have a feeling that it is not only a correct form done but also a happy ending.
What's great about it: Paper passing, folding, ripping, sorting, looking is all but done.
What's not so great: Previous year's numbers not always along side of this year's.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
