deduction for last years state taxes pd this year

I would have forgotten to deduct the state taxes owed for 2011 that I paid in 2012 if it were not for Turbo Tax directing me there!

Thank you Turbo Tax for making my preparation efficient. Preparing my own taxes provides me with the information I need to obtain deductions the following year.
What's great about it: the information from previous Turbo Tax filings is present. Program explains and pursues all tax requirements and dedu

Just some nits

State refund requires too much manual intervention and knowledge of tax law. Where you have to answer questions and you need to save the return and come back later, save the answers to the questions. Really aggravating to have to continually answer the questions.
What's great about it: Does ask a lot of questions. Makes you think.
What's not so great: does not retain answers each session. have to reanswer each time you get more information. state refund needs help.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Transfer from previous year a great help in finding missing information from our banks. Handled the AMT and other calculations so I did not have to figure that out. Much easier than paper forms - and no eraser holes either.
What's great about it: did the calculations; maintained the data; did the e-file
What's not so great: print process for State filing not obvious

Easier every year

Love having the option to be walked through the return via the "guide" or doing it myself, love the itsdeductible integration. Love the ability to e-download docs from my employer, financial institution etc.
What's great about it: Flexibility with "guide" vs direct access, love itsdeductible integration, e-download of docs

It is nice to have comparisons with year's past returns. Helps to make sure you haven't forgotten to claim something.
