2012 TTax

All in all TTax 2012 was a great tax prep experience. Some might think it gets a little tooooooo detailed and asks toooooooooooo many questions but............ w/o that I don't think they could go the extra mile in making sure the user takes advantage of EVERYTHING they can to maximize their refund.
What's great about it: Very thorough; easy to understand; no stone unturned
What's not so great: Perhaps some of the help was a little lacking

A split state return was HORRID. There's a glitch, and you are forced to put dates for date you started residency and ended state residency, but the rules state you can't enter BOTH, but you aren't allowed to delete one. Thus forcing you to mail it in... I tried repeatedly to delete it to no avail.
What's great about it: Federal was very easy to do
What's not so great: Filing a split return w/ 2 states was HORRID. A glitch, no way to fix, had to mail CA return as a result.

Would be nice if the state e-filing was included in the package. Other than that is a well designed program with abundant help available. Have used the software for years. Tried the others a few times, staying with this one.
What's great about it: Well designed
What's not so great: E-filing state costs extra $$$

EASY TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. SEEMS TO BE VERY THOROUGH, BUT THEN I'M NOT A CPA OR TAX ATTORNEY, SO MAYBE I'M MISSING DEDUCTIONS I DON'T KNOW ABOUT. THE SECTION ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS FOR COLLEGE-ATTENDING CHILDREN IS CONFUSING, AS IS THE SECTION ABOUT DEPENDENT CHILDREN WHO HAVE INCOME.
What's great about it: EASY TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS
What's not so great: I'M GETTING LESS MONEY BACK EVERY YEAR

What I like: It does all the math and makes less mistakes than I often do. :-) Asks lots of questions so you are less likely to forget something when doing the returns. This also reminds you of what to do for the next year's taxes. You can stop and rest, take a break, etc, and it remembers where you were at.
Some cons: Some help links didn't work in Chrome. Occasionally wished I could print some info pages as I was filing out forms.
But I'll be back next year it's soooo much better than the old way by myself!
What's great about it: Easy to use and file tax forms
What's not so great: Some of the links in the help pages didn't work in Chrome.

Turbo Tax has come through again! After finalizing a major move, I was nervous about doing my own taxes again, but Turbo Tax led me through the process. From finding rare circumstance forms to the normal financial reporting, the program was very thorough and I feel confident in the process again! Thanks Turbo Tax
What's great about it: Had forms that were hard to find and the tax program walked me through it
What's not so great: Found it cheaper online after I paid for it in the store!
Pros: I moved, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

QUICK & EASY EXPERIENCE

IT TOOK ME MAYBE 1/2 HOUR TO COMPLETE BOTH MY FEDERAL & STATE FORMS! THAT INCLUDED WALKING DOWNSTAIRS TO FETCH BANK INFO & OTHER FORMS I FORGOT TO COLLECT BEFORE FILING.
What's great about it: WALKS YOU THROUGH EVERY STEP

TurboTax walks you through, step by step, ensuring that you don't miss a thing. I particularly like how you are told how common a particular form of income or deductions is, which tells me how much attention I should pay. I've used TurboTax for years now and it seems to be easier each time.
