If u are a little bit patient then turbotax is the right choice every year every time plain and simple.
What's great about it: easy to file lots of help everywhere
What's not so great: just the waiting time for the help
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Buying and maturing CD's with no cost and no capital gain, because interest was already taxed each year we had the CD, was certainly not clear and I did lots of digging into the Fed instructions and lots of enter and delete until the results were finally what I knew they should be.
Trusts were barely even mentioned in your questions. We have both CDs and stocks in our trust and one of the stocks is in a foreign country. Figuring out the reporting status for the TD F 90-22.1 was very complicated. I'm hoping I got that right.
I must say that I agreed somewhat with those comments in the discussion group complaining about getting the wrong results on complicated entries. We buy this program to do a quick and easy job of reporting our taxes, not to spend hours reading through Fed and State instructions to get it right.
What's great about it: Most of question method, fed better than Iowa
What's not so great: Figuring out how to report revocable trust interest

I feel I am equipped to do my own taxes, my brothers, and niece's without having to go to a CPA or anyone else. I felt confident being able to explore the tax return sections to make sure I was inputting the correct material. I especially
like the way the program guides one through each section or income and deductions. I've used turbo tax for the past 5 years and intend to use it in 2014.

We will continue using Turbotax because of how easy it makes doing our taxes. Plus it has been on the market for a long time and it well tested.
What's great about it: Makes doing taxes easy
What's not so great: Cost is higher than other tax software. Having to pay for state efiling.

The guided process is simple to follow and gives you confidence that you are filling out the forms correctly. I appreciate the error checks at the end to make sure an item/piece of information wasn't accidentally left out or put in the wrong place.
