Very simple return

Very happy with this experience. The return was for my deceased brother's estate and the program made it a very simple process.
What's great about it: Had all of last year's info ready to go
What's not so great: none

Wow - so easy a CPA can do it
on March 25, 2013

I've used Turbo Tax for so many years, I can't remember not using it.
I'm a CPA but now focus on M&A work. This software is so easy to use, I'm not sure why any one would ever need to see a CPA for filing tax returns.
What's great about it: Flipping back and forth from forms to step by step for guidance
What's not so great: Its not free

Even I can do this!

It is definitely the best way to go when you need to do it yourself and not the long paper way. It explains and walks you through every step...pretty easy to understand.
What's great about it: It walks you through everything, plus some! It even has boxes to explain things that aren't clear.
What's not so great: Sometimes, not sure what category certain things are in.

Easy to Use
on March 25, 2013
Posted by: mauryk
Using the Easy method, Turbotax takes me step by step but shows an overview of everything I entered and need to enter. Easy connection to financial data from institutions requires minimum entry. Seemed easier than in previous years.
What's great about it: Very straightforward. Step by Step. Quick Overview
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

T2 Review

Turbo Tax is very easy to use and covers all the bases for my return which includes K1 forms. Will use it in the future.
What's great about it: Very intuitive and easy to use; much better than the software I use as a volunteer with AARP (taxwise)
What's not so great: Not really anything; it did everything I needed to be done.

Good solid program
on March 25, 2013

Really easy to follow und use. Great prompting for possible missing deductions and/or info! I had an error on non-deductible IRA which was caught!
Liked the potential audit alerts!
What's great about it: Really easy to use - especially if you used it last year!
What's not so great: Handeling of non-deductable IRA contributions confusing
Pros: I bought or sold investments

black boxish
on March 25, 2013
Posted by: mvlister
Feels very black boxish. Old hand filed forms & instructions gave a more solid understanding of what the effects of everything were. TT feels more like "plug in your data, here's the answer" with little understanding of what happened or the ramifications of if a value had been greater or less to help planning for next year.
Form 8880 worksheet for Credit for Qualified Retirement Savings Contributions only pulls in data from one prior year though data is required for three prior years. TT put up no red flags to alert to this and said I was entitled to a credit when I wasn't.
What's great about it: comprehensive sweep of subject, accurate arithmetic
What's not so great: data, forms, worksheets and help not clickable via context links
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
