TurboTax is a no-brainer tax-filing choice!

TurboTax is the next best thing after sliced bread! I have been using it at least for the last 13-14 years with great satisfaction. Although my tax form is relatively simple, TT, certainly, has reduced a lot of tension on my part come tax-filing day - that is, I don't have to go through the intricacies of all the IRS rules and forms and worksheets. TT does it in the background, and the best part is, it keeps you continuously abreast of what's going to be refunded to you. That keeps you motivated to keep on filling it to see if the next step is going to increase your refund. The timely links to various communities and forums and TT experts are very helpful if you stumble on a difficult issue. And with free e-filing and automatic e-refund, life is really simplified way before the tax day.
However, I noticed three errors with the 2012 software which may have been frustrating to others too:
1. 1099-Misc - when you get this form from your employer for certain internal awards, like, inventions, TT goes into an infinite loop, saying that your employer should have included this info in your W-2 even if you want to fill it in legitimately as "Other Income," from your employer. Although it is an award, it tries to put it under "Gamblings," which it is not. I had to force that as "Other Income" directly in the form. This error also existed in the past year(s), and needs to be corrected.
2. Although I filed only one 1098-T for Tuition Statement for my son, an older half-filled version of 1098-T was hanging in the final package. I had to delete it manually from the forms section directly before filing. TT's review or error detection did not catch it.
3. Finally, I can't see the opitons in "Life Changes" section while typing this review on Internet Explorer 7.

What's great about it: Very convenient to fill, ample on-line help, and refund is contiuously tracked.
What's not so great: Some software correction needed in 1099-Misc input section

Good refund

Overall a good way to prepare and file taxes. I have been using turbo tax now for 12 years. Had 1 problem a few years ago. It was my entry error. Was able to clear it with the IRS myself.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Couldn't import income statements??

I have used Turbo Tax for the past 15 years and honestly, though I am a "paper and pencil" kind of girl--can't ever imagine going back!
Love that I have access to "help" anytime, because as I wrote--I am paranoid!

The Turbo Tax Software is the Greatest software ever. It was quick and easy. With filing right on the spot when you finish your returns. Simply put, YOU WILL LOVE IT!!

Third-time user! My wife and I love this software! The deluxe version of this software is just incredible. One function that I enjoyed was the "explain this" tool. Extremely helpful and I have learned quite a bit for next year! I would definitely recommend this software to any use.

Civil Union Interface Could be Better

As always, preparing individual federal tax return forms was very nicely laid out. It seems that we're all on a learning curve with regards to figuring out how to navigate tax forms for those in a civil union that isn't recognized by the government as a marrage. It was clear that a "mock" joint federal return would need to be created (but not filed), as well as individual returns which WOULD be created AND filed. It was also clear that a joint state form would be created based on the "mock" joint federal forms. But - the instructions for how to make that happen were not at all clear. Maybe it will be easier next year.
What's great about it: Individual returns great
What's not so great: Lack of clear info or path forward regarding joint state forms for civil unions

I am happy to have used TurboTax and finished up our taxes this year. It was easy and fast.
What's great about it: Really easy and fast. it was nice not to have to sit in the tax preparers office with our young daughter for hours
What's not so great: Felt a little unsure of myself because we've always used a tax preparer
