This is my 5th year using TurboTax. Previously with a independent tax specialist I almost always had some issue to followup with the IRS. Never with TurboTax.
What's great about it: Logical progression through the tax maze
What's not so great: difficult to delete something carried forward from last year that does not apply this year i.e., old school district

Fed rolled and State rocked!

The program always surprises me how well it is put together. Prior, when filing my taxes, I would take them to a tax agent who would always mass process tax forms and wasnt really concerned about the nuances that make a good return process. Though Turbotax, I am able to make asserted decisions with evidence of receipts that I did in fact qualify for additional tax breaks. these are things that an agent has discretion on and most times err's on the side of his better judgement which is not in your benefit. Great job!
What's great about it: Intuitive Interface and well configured
What's not so great: none

1. Even I like the "What If" form, it gives approximate numbers of the differences between MFJ and MFS, the numbers does not add up, and they don't get updated when you do changes in your Tax return.
2. When I do my daughters Tax returns, they are dependent and in college, I have to say No to the question "Did you have tuition expenses?", even though they had it. If I say yes I have to go through the whole process, with all the numbers, but in the end it turns out, as expected, they can not put up tuition expenses, since they are dependant.
3. The electronic sign of MA tax return is very confusing, there are 3 fields for the name, but it's very easy to miss the 2 last ones and write the whole name in the first field. There are no error message, you just get in a loop to try and try again.
What's great about it: Very user friendly
What's not so great: The "What If" form

Turbotax is great. I have used if for several years and it is so easy. You are guided through the whole process step-by-step. The program will also tell you if something raises a red flag during the review process so everything is accurate.
What's great about it: Step-by-step through the whole process
Pros: I had a baby, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Form 1045 Capability Missing
on March 24, 2013
Posted by: BlueLeader
It would be strategic for TurboTax to include Form 1045 capability. Once calculating a current year's return and seeing a NOL (Net Operating Loss), and if a faithful user already has the prior two years of returns loaded, it would be a huge advantage to calculate carryback savings. Currently, there is a comment that says a 1045 need not be sent in at the same time as the 1040. True, but that misses the whole point. If I carryback a portion of the NOL, it changes my 1040.
What's great about it: Tremendous guidance
What's not so great: Help search isn't very helpful; key NOL capability is missing

Easy but late updates frustrating
on March 24, 2013

The program is easy to use for a simple return (non-homeowner, non-investor), has clear instructions, lots of hints and suggestions. The only difficulty I had was with the huge downloads and time-consuming installations AFTER one clicked to e-file the return. Couldn't these have been handled before (the program went to "update" immediately upon installation). And it raises the question -- what happens with folks who have filed prior to these "updates"?
What's great about it: Straightforward and easy to use for a simple return
What's not so great: The late updates just before the e-filing are really frustrating.
