Turbo Tax review - 2012

Dividends reporting - A tip that if you liquidate a mutual fund before the dividend distribution happens, you will not have dividends to report.
HSA for state return. - Only allowed to put amount from 2010 ending balance - 2011 expenses, in the "amount used in 2012 for medical expenses" My total used last year was higher, but I could not contiue when answering the questions as asked correctly. The box should accept a higher number, yet note that credit ampunt will not exceed amount above.
What's great about it: Loading of previous info. Easy questions.
What's not so great: Some areas could use better explainantion

Easy to understand- I've been using Turbo Tax for at least 8 years and the constant improvements you make each year result in accurate and stress free tax return. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Makes filing returns as painless as can be. Simple to follow process and questions that make me consider things that I otherwise wouldn't have. Why pay someone to do this???

Overall, it works well. I have used TT for several years and will do so again.
What's great about it: Clear, systematic, very little jargon
What's not so great: It mistakenly copied a form of income from 2011 into 2012, and thence into my state return. Took time to fix.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

I have used TurboTax for 10+ years and gets better every year. Very easy to use and provides great suggestions/tips and analysis. Cannot go wrong with TurboTax.

Best tax prep experience this year yet!

TurboTax is now my go-to software for tax preperation. I have used TaxCut twice in the past--it is definitely a less expensive program--and regretted it both times. In 2008, I used TaxCut and subsequently bought TurboTax to clean up the mess. I've stuck with TurboTax since.
I imagine the competition is better these days, but TurboTax just keeps getting better. It is smooth sailing once you input the W-2 data and move on to other income and deductions. So long as you have the tax papers handy, it's easy peesy. The state was basically automatic (probably a reflection of the NJ tax return). A few questions and it was done.
Deduction Pro is better than before, but still is a little clunky compared to the rest of the tax suite. The major complaint is that my charities didn't pull over from 2011 to 2012 and I had to reinput all the names and addresses. No big deal, but it would have been much faster if these things transferred over from last year.
All in all, a great experience and the best experience using tax software that I have ever had. I'm not looking forward to paying taxes next year, but since I'll have to, I'll definitely be purchasing the next edition of TurboTax!
What's great about it: Easy to use; walks you through your taxes; lots of help along the way
What's not so great: Deduction pro could work a little more smoothly
