Quickest Return Ever!
on March 24, 2013
Posted by: MrVW
Once again, Turbo Tax rocked our socks off on this year's returns. It took me 30 minutes to breeze through (I keep all our tax related forms in a folder). Highly recommend, every year.
What's great about it: One stop, 30 minute return
What's not so great: Nothing that I can think of

Absolutely Great Product - But
on March 24, 2013

I've been using Turbo Tax for many, many years (even before it was fancied up like it is today). I've always felt that it was a great product, getting easier to use every year and a significant money savings over using a preparer. However, even though it's gotten clearer and easier to use each year, it still continues to have errors and lack some clarity in the New Jersey return. i.e.- It does not provide for the fact that NJ Real Estate Tax reimbursement is taxable for Federal returns, but not taxable for NJ returns. It does not adequately clarify the handling of IRA withdrawals in the NJ return, etc. Otherwise, as I said before, it's a great product!!
What's great about it: Almost everything - particularly import of last year's information
What's not so great: Not accurate for New Jersey Tax Return

Done At Last

Liked using this tool very much but as stated in cons section I was forced to enter employer state and zip info into W2 form even though, being retired, I had no W2 forms. I ended up entering my state and 00000-0000 as my information. Hopefully, this won't cause our return to error out. Also, when I was on the conformation page after efiling I wanted a snapshot of that page for my records and selecting file...print ..the program only would let me re-print my return. I really wanted that confirmation page for my records.
What's great about it: Very easy to use, organized well
What's not so great: Had no W2s (retired) but forced to enter employer state and zip info before I could efile

MAKING FILING EASIER
on March 24, 2013

Very helpful by providing fill-in blank fields of forms I required. There are usually explanations available for the fill-in boxes. The autodownload feature for 1099s is helpful. It is helpful to see what amounts were in your return and worksheets were last year, it gives a comfort factor that you are not missing something or it calls attention to something you need to review. E-filing is pretty simple.
What's great about it: Fill in blanks with explanations; e-filing
What's not so great: Slow online chat help response. Not all financial companies are listed in auto download of 1099s

Great for quick and simple but did need to research what certain forms were,
What's great about it: Simple, quick, and easy
What's not so great: Had to research forms, needed more question marks next to form titles
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Why does printing the documents to be mailed print on both side of the pages? It is ok until the print also prints the start of the state taxes on the back side of the federal forms etc. I just decide to print only single pages tht way they all print satisfactorily. IN ADDITION THE FIRST PAGES OF STATE FORM TO BE FILED ALSO PRINTS ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE THANK YOU PAGES.
