Not so good this year

On some of the more obscure forms when the software query asked for claimed amount, entering "0" was interpreted as an actual positive amount. This of course was transposed to subsequent documents and caused "errors" in final review. Very difficult to track down the source of this error and correct (leaving field blank) since program displayed subsequent documents first.
What's great about it: Better than a hard copy
What's not so great: Software getting buggy

Both Too Complex and Too Simple

The problem with this software is that in the Easy Track form, it CLAIMS to lead you through what you want to do, but it would NOT do that if you e-filed Federal and mailed State! I had to go back all the way through the State forms process three times before I could get it to print out the mailable forms, and even then insisted in printing out ALL the tax forms (not just the State) "for my records". It also offered up misleading data entry forms for my several 1099-INT forms, resulting in my duplicating several entries when I had to go back in the forms mode and edit.
What's great about it: Keeps arithmetic accurate, covers all arcane forms
What's not so great: Easy Track format very misleading!!

I've been using TT since 2006 with the exception of 1 year. I have never been audited and have always had great confidence that my return was accurate as a result of using TT. It is simple and straight forward.
What's great about it: simple, easy

no state on this years deluxe!

this years version would not let me download my information from previous year. had to retype it all over again. 2011 version was awesome but 2012 version lots of issues. i go to start my one state return/tax filing and it kept looping into updating information. never allowed me into my state. then makes me pay for it. it was suppose to be included. not one area on box says it would cost me extra for state returns/filing. very upsetting. tax time isn't fun anyway and this is just a punch in the stomach!
What's great about it: the easiness of getting federal taxes done. good explainations
What's not so great: would not download my last years information, had to retype it all. . wont let me file the one state tax.

NOT Happy with Turbbotax this year

I have used Turbotax for 13 years at least and this year I had to file an amended form........not able to get Turbotax to make the corrected form so I could mail in the additional taxes. This is the 1st year I have had a problem and no one to talk to to fix it. I am very disappointed in intuit. I had thought very highley of them in the past. VERY FRUSTRATED!!!!!! I have been doing taxes for at least 5 people every yer using turbotax but now I think I will switch to someone elses next year if this cant be resolved. I also been using quicken for many years too.

Great program - one main complaint
on February 17, 2013

We've been using TurboTax for over 10 years now and love the way it reduces our pain during tax season. It features easy-to-understand explanations and links to IRS documentation when more details become necessary. On those rare occasions where the built-in documentation was unclear, the TurboTax message boards offer access to scores of experienced people willing to clear up misunderstandings and who will clarify situations that can befuddle non-tax experts.
My one gripe with TurboTax is a persistent tendency for each year's revision to selectively "forget" information from the previous year's return, even though TurboTax was used for the previous year and even imports those returns. Here are examples from my own 2012 return:
1) Under Wages & Income --> State and Local Tax Refunds and Other Government Payments: Form 1099-G
2) "Wages & Income --> Confirm the Standard Deduction in 2011".
4) "Wages & Income" --> "Did you use the Standard Mileage Rage?" for 1099-MISC.
5) State Taxes --> "Prior Year Child Care Credit".
Given that I deal with tax issues once a year, it really irks me to get prompted for information that should have been included with the import from the previous year's return.
That one complaint aside, I heartily recommend TurboTax for all but the most complex or most simple returns.
What's great about it: Easy to use, checks for audit flags and deductions
What's not so great: Selectively "forgets" information from previous returns
Pros: I moved
