Couldn't live without!

OK, our 780 is nicknamed "Ricky-Bobby" or short "RB". With a house full of 4-legged, furry kids it's difficult to keep up. RB is a lifesaver. BUT, you MUST devote some time to cleaning if you have PETS. Here's a list of things I would highly recommend having. 1. thread cutters, 2. extra sets of brushes and filters 3. small magnetic headed phillips screwdriver. 4. static guard spray. 5. some form of compressed air. I have to clean RB's brushes almost daily. The hair builds up around the edges of the rolls and can only be removed with the thread cutters. That's why I have several sets of brushes & filters. I can just pop in a clean set and clean the dirty ones when I have time. Mag. head screwdriver for the tiny screw that holds the beater brush on. Hair/string gets under it and the tiny screw is hard to deal with manually and I don't want to lose it. Static guard spray to keep RB looking clean. Lots of static created(we have very dry climate) and he gets very "Fuzzy" I just wipe him down once a week or less. Compressed air for cleaning the paper filters. Saves money and keeps him at peak performance. I would not recommend one of these to someone who is not going to keep it clean if you have pets or long hair. But for me, I am totally willing. He does get stuck in some places but we have fixed most of those spots. The battery life seems to be quite good and very quick recharge. Love the schedule button. He is fairly noisy, nothing like a regular vac. but that's OK since I can tell he is still operating in the back rooms. On hardwood and tile, RB does a descent job. On carpet I still use a heavy duty vac. once a week. RB will leave "treadmarks" after awhile in the carpet along walls where he cleans daily, a quick vac. knocks those out. He probably covers 85 to 100 percent of the room, and that's amazing considering all the obstacles he has to deal with. All in all I am thinking about getting another one, "Shake-n-Bake". Yes to RB needing some clean up, but he makes our home cleaner and fresher and that's worth it to me! I don't sit with the morning sun coming in, feeling like holding my breath when I see all the hair and dust floating around. We also live in an extremely dry and dusty area so that really fine dust is always filtering in. And waking up to a just freshly vacuumed carpet is so nice in the morning, besides impressing any company ;)
Pros: Easy To Install, Easy To Use

Can't wait to get another one...

I have wanted an iRobot for years and finally decided to give it a try. After comparing all of the models and reading reviews, I decided to get the 780 model back in August. It has now been nearly 4 months and I can't believe how I functioned without it. I probably ran it almost non-stop for the first week after I saw how well it worked in the first room. I would set up the virtual wall and let it thoroughly clean a room, emptying the bin as it filled up. With a couple of cats that sleep in harder to reach spots around the house (i.e. directly under the middle of a bed), the Roomba would spend extra time there. As soon as the Roomba was done, I would clean it out and recharge. As my house has multiple floors, I ordered an extra docking station and virtual walls. This way I can move the Roomba from floor to floor but leave everything else in place. It took me a little while to figure out the exact configuration as to where the docking stations needed to be and where the virtual walls should be set up. In some instances I had to move the virtual wall to the other end of the doorway as the Roomba seemed "confused" and did not know how to get out of a room. In other instances, the Roomba could not find it's way back to the docking station. Again, it took a little trial and error but since it recharges quickly, I just kept an eye on it and adjusted accordingly. On just a couple of occasions, it has "escaped" into another area, but since the family has been really good at picking up their socks and things off the floor, it really hasn't been an issue. It also has a habit of wedging itself under a china cabinet from time to time but it's pretty easy to get it back out. I have it scheduled for every morning at 5am to vacuum up any cat litter that the cats have managed to track around. In the evenings, I move it to another part of the house for regular use. My only challenge has been with the main floor of the house. As there are both rooms and hallways, I actually could not come up with the right location for the docking station and the virtual walls so all the rooms were cleaned, and the Roomba docked itself in one session. My solution was to split the floor into two and move the Roomba from one side to the other as needed. Other than that, I have no con's. As this point, I am counting down the days until I get another Roomba (or two) so I don't have to move it around the house anymore. My family and friends are amazed at all well it works and the little bit of care it requires is well worth the effort. I have not had to vacuum my floors once with my regular vacuum once since I have had it.
Pros: Easy To Use, Quick Recharges, Scheduling
Cons: Can Get Stuck

Because the first one does such a great job! Bought the 562 and loved the way it cleaned up after my two small dogs. I have a large home so I used the 562 on one level and the 780 on the maIn level. Don't know how I ever lived without these units. It's so effortless to keep my house clean now that I Roomba every day and I love how clean my house seems and how clean the air I breathe is.
Pros: Easy To Install, Easy To Use, Effortless, Extends Functionality

OMG! I LOVE my Roomba!!!!

I live on a horse farm. So, dust and dirt are a constant battle. Plus I have 6 dogs, 7 cats, 2 messy cockatiels and nearly 3,000 sq ft of hardwood floors. The Roomba has given me my LIFE back! It is the best thing I have ever purchased. It really works! It actually CLEANS my floors. I turn it on everyday and there is not a speck of dust, or a grain of bird seed or a single pet hair anywhere! I am amazed at how much dirt it holds...much more than my upright vacuums. It is fascinating to watch because it seems to sense the dirt! It is actually very entertaining! It whips under the sofa, spins around and around the chair legs until every inch of floor is covered, grabs all the dust bunnies from under the beds, does a great job in the corners, too, and it TALKS to you! Then, after it's work is done or if the battery needs a quick charge,it goes home to it's docking station all by itself! I am FREE at last, never again to worry about visitors walking into a house with dirty floors. Yay! Rrrrroooooomba!

I've owned this machine about six months now, and altghough deferring my initial review unitl I saw it's capabilities, I can now state that this is a wonderful tool, if one remembers a few things: 1. Clean it at least every other use if you have a pet, more often if your pet, like mine, is a very long haired cat guilty of "vaccucide" in the past. I fully appreciate the fact that the cat hair is the cause of the extra cleaning. I use one of those small 1 1/2 gallon shop-vac units, that does an admirable job cleaning it. 2. Block or remove some obstacles. Watch it operate. In my house, I have one of those floor-stand electric fans with a 24 inch round base that tapers from the floor to about 1 1/2 inches high at the pedestal. "Harvey" gets 'high centered' on this, and ends up shutting down and calling for help, but not often. Electrical cords don't appear to present a problem, in fact he once unplugged my cell phone charger, and dutifully brought it to me, undamaged. I've actually timed this machine, and on rare occassions, it will run a full hour and forty five minutes on one charge. Of course at the end of that it's starving and looking for 'home'. I am retired and disabled, confined to a power wheelchair. Trying to vacuum, using a conventional machine, with 2 bad legs, and 1 bad shoulder is just as difficult as you imagine it is. This machine has been wonderful. Living in Alaska, with all the ice, snow and road salt tracked in, it's done a remarkable job, and should I find need to replace it, I will most definately do so. By the way, the name is just a name, it doesn't 'bang' the walls.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Covers Entire Room, Deep Cleaning Ability, Hassle Free Operation, Large Debris Bin, Long Run Time, Pet Friendly, Quiet
Cons: Can Get Stuck, Frequent Cleaing

We have the 780 scheduled to clean every day. The bin was much fuller the first week, and now has an ordinary amount of fine debris. It started cleaning our kitchen and family room at one hour and twenty minutes. Now it takes one hour and three minutes. Every once in a while it gets stuck under our sofa, but we simply move it out to the side. Takes 30 seconds to empty the bin and shake out the two little filters. These two rooms are used heavily by the entire family. The rooms are now much more orderly as everyone removes everything off the floor including socks and shoes! This was a perk we hadn't thought about! Everyone is so pleased with the clean floors that we are ordering another! This is worth every little penny!
Pros: Easy To Install, Easy To Use, Extends Functionality, Inconspicuous Design, Increases Performance, Rooms remain orderly
Cons: Gets stuck under sofa

The best purchase we have ever made!

After considering this purchase for many months and lamenting about the high price, we finally decided to buy one. After having it for less than one week, I have decided that it is one of the best purchases we have ever made. We have two young children who track their fair share of playground sand into the house, and a large dog who sheds like crazy. My husband and I each work long hours, so we are very appreciative of anything that will reduce the amount of time we need to spend on routine cleaning tasks. Knowing that Roomba (or Scooby Doo, as my children call it) is dutifully vacuuming the floors while we are at work/school, is SO wonderful. It is so nice to come home to floors that are free of dust, sand, and pet hair, and to see the smooth Roomba tracks on the newly-fluffed rugs and carpets. What a tremendous time saver! Yes, it was expensive, but I could not be happier with our purchase. It is well worth it in the amount of time saved and satisfaction from coming home to a clean(er) house.

Everyone Should Have One!

We've had multiple versions of the Roomba. Our 780 is, by far, the best yet! He runs longer, is quieter and picks up WAY more hair and debris than our previous 535 (which was several orders of magnitude more useful than the original Roomba we purchased long ago). Love him! Straight out of the box Robbie 2 did a great job on the house. With our 535, Robbie 1, it took several days for him to "learn" the house well enough to actually seem like he was a useful addition---not so for Robbie 2---he was "at home" immediately and cleaning like he knew what he was doing. Robbie 2 runs every day (love the scheduling feature) and the amount of stuff he picks up(even right after the cleaning lady comes) is amazing. We just let him roam and find that he seems to know when to concentrate on a given room. We have a house with a long-haired dog who sheds constantly and 2 cats and Robbie 2 keeps up with them all. The Aerobin and new brush/bearing design is much better at picking up hair and much easier to clean out than the 535 was---and we can go for a day or two before cleaning the bin, whereas we had to religiously clean Robbie 1 every time he ran (and sometimes during his run). Also, the length of time Robbie 2 runs is just about double what Robbie 1 ran even when he was new...That's a real bonus for us. We tried living without a Roomba when Robbie 1 (the 535) died and after 3 weeks we gave up and determined we just had to have the extra cleaning the Roomba provides during the days in between the cleaning lady's visits. Another plus is that the sound Robbie 2 makes during operation doesn't seem to bother either the dog or the cats. The cats run from other vacuum cleaners and the dog wants to bite them all, but Robbie can run right up to either cat or the dog and they'll just get up and move a bit away. Clearly, you've picked a frequency that doesn't bother the pets, for which we are grateful! I'll echo one of your earlier commentors and say that it would be nice if Robbie had some juice left to beep so that we could find him when he's lost in the house (perhaps enough power left to respond to a call from the remote?) and I wish that the charging base had a little sturdier (wider) footprint because he sometimes doesn't find or stay docked because the base has moved. Overall, the 700 series seems to be a great improvement over our previous model.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Covers Entire Room, Large Debris Bin, Long Run Time, Pet Friendly, Quiet
Cons: Can Get Stuck, Can get lost, EXPENSIVE
