Love my Herb Alpert!
on January 11, 2014

I love Herb Alpert! He has made life so much easier for us. I programmed him to run everyday at 10:00 and he goes for over 2 hours. It is amazing the amount of dog hair and dust that he picks up daily. I have allergies and this really helps me out. I was surprised at the people complaining of noise as he is much quieter than the vaccum cleaner. The only thing that is surprising is that he got stuck on the large area rug and since then will NOT go on it anymore. If I try to put him on to clean it, he alerts me to move him to a different area.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Covers Entire Room, Hassle Free Operation, Large Debris Bin, Long Run Time, Pet Friendly
Cons: Large Area Rug Stuck, Stuck On Large Area Rug

We use ours on the main floor of our house and wow it does a great job. It's great to come home and not having to sweep the house daily. We have a cat and dog and this machine cleans the pet hair up with ease!! The price is high, yes, but the convenience of not having to vacuum/sweep out weighs the price in no time.
Pros: Cleans Under Furniture, Hassle Free Operation, Long Run Time
Cons: Misses Spots, Small Debris Bin

Rosie is the housekeeper on the Jetsons, so mine is Rosie Jetson. I think it's wonderful, does a great job of cleaning and moving from hardwood to carpet to tile and back, does a great job of cleaning every room. She did get herself stuck once between the wall and a nightstand and when I came home I just took her to her docking station. Another time she was stuck on a bath mat in the master bathroom. But once I learned to put the bathmat away, it's almost perfect. My only problem is that it comes with a CD to watch. I have a satellite tv that does not have a cd player, and I have a new laptop that didn't come with a CD player, so I haven't been able to watch the CD. There are no written directions, you just have to figure it out yourself if you cannot watch the CD. But that's the only problem I have had. Love Rose. She is amusing to watch and does a great job.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Covers Entire Room, Deep Cleaning Ability, Hassle Free Operation, Large Debris Bin, Long Run Time
Cons: Can Get Stuck

Roomba is great. Lighthouses not so much

We use the Roomba 780 to clean floors throughout the house. It does a good job on both hard surfaces and carpet. All rooms are small, so I can't speak to how the Roomba performs in a large room. We had an original Roomba years ago, and while I found it interesting, I found I could not rely on it to really clean floors. It got stuck too often, had a very small debris bin, didn't have much suction, etc. It served as a conversation piece more than anything. I'm happy to say that with the newer models, all those problems seem to have been solved. The Roomba 780 does a great job of cleaning floors, is easy to maintain, and gets stuck only rarely. The schedule feature is very nice as long as the Roomba appropriately follows the lighthouses, which unfortunately seems to be only about 50% of the time. I have it set to clean three rooms (living room, dining room, and kitchen) three times per week. Often, it will pass through a lighthouse that is in virtual wall mode, then get stuck in a room where it should not be. We've been away on multiple occasions only to come home and find the Roomba stranded on the wrong side of a virtual wall, having exhausted its power. It also seems that sometimes the Roomba will pass a lighthouse (in lighthouse mode) without realizing it. I say this because the Roomba will pass through a given lighthouse three times, then end up seeking its docking station in a room where the docking station does not reside. All in all, I give the Roomba 780's cleaning ability an A+, but its behavior with the virtual walls is unpredictable. I'll give the virtual wall lighthouse feature a C-.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Easy to Schedule, Hassle Free Operation, Large Debris Bin, Long Run Time, Quiet
Cons: Can Get Stuck, Lighthouses Problematic

WE LOVE OUR IROBOT ROOMBA'S
on December 29, 2013

from Pennsylvania
We have a total of 5 Model 780 iRobot's that sweep upstairs bedroom area, and living room, dining room, and kitchen areas, and Model 400 for basement area. We have to be very careful in bathrooms very flat carpets can only be used on the bathroom floors or else iRobot's get stuck. Great sweeper set the time and can count on a clean home. Because of sore back saves hours of trying to sweep. iRobot's are just about an inch too high and gets stuck under our kitchen cupboards. We got long blocks of styre foam and covered them with contact and set them along under the kitchen cupboards. Also iRobot's are just an inch too wide. iRobot's goes in between our kitchen and dining room chairs because the front chair legs are wider than the back chair legs, and most of the time iRobot's can't seem to figure out how to get out. We never ever leave them run when we are not home, because they can be stuck the entire running time. We want to buy the newer models, but the size measurements are all the same! We are waiting for a few years to see if they finally make the sizes just right for our use. We also own the large Scooba and smaller Braava's. We can't pick up heavy objects and carry things heavy so we had to purchase iRobot's for all areas. We have an old model 400 Roomba series that still can sweep the basement great, although any flat carpet stalls this 400 model. We have already recommended all models to family and friends. We would never be able to keep our home this clean all the time. Thanks for inventing iRobot's.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Deep Cleaning Ability, Large Debris Bin, Pet Friendly, Saved Me Tons Of Sweeping
Cons: Built An Inch Too High, Built An Inch Too Wide, Can Get Stuck, Frequent Maintenance, Noisy, Repeated Patterns

Amazed and pleased, my 780

I was very nervous about spending this kind of cash.My husband thought it might be a foolish purchase. I am so pleased with my 780 vacuum unit. My husband is retired, and did not want me to hire a maid. He didnt want to have to get lost for the day while that person would be in the house. My job got so busy and stressful, that I was embarrased by the tumble weeds of cat and dog hair and dust. The floors were a constatnt reminder of how I could not keep up. I knew these robots existed, but I thought they were no more than "toys".I have a large old home with hardwood floors, but many persian wool rugs with fringe. I even overlap parts of the rugs on one another in some rooms, and the roomba has no issues keeping them clean. I thought I would have to follow behind it to do the more serious cleaning, but it is far better at cleaning than any other vacuum I have ever owned. We live by the beach, she picks up sand. We never have the sensation of stuff sticking to our feet from the floors anymore. That is amazing. 1)It gets closer to the walls and furniture with its tiny side brush. 2) Its actually goes around each chair and leg of the dining room table and gets hair off the felt coasters I have glued on the bottom of all legs.I used to have to get down on my hands and knees with an attachment piece in the old days. 3) Cleans out the wider gaps in the wood floors, going after more of it with each cleaning. 4)Cleans under large heavy furniture! I rarely did this with my old vacuum.I will actually be planning future furniture purchases on whether my roomba can make it under each piece. 4) Under my bed, its ALWAYS clean and dusted. This is a first for me. 5)It has a beater brush gentle enough to use on the wood floors, backed by this really cool silicone blade that is "dusting" while pushing things up the vacuum. 6)My old standard vacuum used very expensive bags. Way before it was full, the exhaust was blowing that terrible heated dog hair smell the whole time I was vacuuming. That does not happen with my Roomba. 7)My floors are beautiful, every day, every room. That never used to happen. I feel like I have a maid. 8) My Roomba will clean for hours, and I am NOT tired and sweaty after its finished. 9)It is not difficult to empty the bin, or check the brush, wheels, etc. I use a seam ripper to run up and down the brush to cut long hair, and not every time the bin gets emptied. Cons; keep the tiny electrical cords used for recharging cell phones/laptops up off the floor. She may pull the lighter weight items off a table. No trouble with standard size electrical cords.
Pros: Easy To Install, Easy To Use, Extends Functionality, Inconspicuous Design, Increases Performance

Wow! The 780 is more than I expected

We acquired the 780 to retire an aging 562 (which is still active in a less demanding area). The cleaning software is much more efficient than that in the 562. Ditto for the hardware. I was happy to see that there is now shielding for the ends of the brushes which should cut down on pet hair problems. The shielding does make it modestly more difficult to insert the brush but that is a small price to pay for this improvement. No similar improvement has been made in the caster which still can get clogged with pet hair. The battery also seems improved. The 780 is better at removing debris from our rugs than our more traditonal vacuums. In summary, the 780 is a major advance.
Pros: Easy To Install, Easy To Use, Extends Functionality, Hardware is improved, Increases Performance, Software is enhanced
