This surround sound bar would probably be better if a Sony Tech could explain how to connect it correctly.

Best for Budget

After reviewing the plethora of available soundbars the SONY CT260H was the winner.
If you don't mind running wires to rear speakers these are the ones for you.
Other brands such as Philips, Toshiba, Sony, etc., w/ similar prices were good but lacked either Sound Quality, HDMI I/O, Blutooth capability, or looks.
I won't go into detail regarding the upper stratosphere ($500+) systems because it's a silly comparison. If you got the cash, you are certainly blessed.
The reason for the four stars instead of five is because SONOS. The ability of going almost totally wireless and the ability to Airplay is 5 stars! But the cost - OUCH!
Sound for movies, TV, etc., was more than ample. The boom in bass is there. I turned up the bass on the soundbar to 6 and it was overbearing so I put it down to 3/4. Treble is at 4/5. Can get loud.
If you are looking for stereo replacement, get serious. It's a soundbar that enhances your television pleasure. Since TVs are getting thinner there's no room for real speakers.
It does sound decent when I bluetooth my iPhone music (although I wished it aiplay). It fills the room nicely, satisfactory, but nothing like a real stereo system. More than okay considering two pieces (sub and soundbar).
The other person who posted that the sound quality is better in their older TV, I would take caution. The soundbar has 300W compared to the TV 5-25w speakers, plus no separate woofer for bass? Foolishness.
BONUS:
I love the fact I can mount it on the wall without having to buy a wall mount. I just used two nails/screws and was done.
It turns itself off when there's no sound, one less thing I need to do.
Summary:
For the price, $199 it's the best soundbar available.
It does enhance TV enjoyment w/ more than ample sound.
It is not a stereo replacement (4sure), but is quite music capable.
HDMI I/O, Bluetooth, IR rears are a plus.
No Airplay, rear speakers, universal remote a minus.
Looks? subjective - Could look better, but not bad.
Different sound modes - would rarely use it.

Great sound, terrible software

When it works it works great. The sound is a little bass heavy and the crossover is a bit higher than I would like but for the price it's really very good.
BUT, I'm debating returning the thing because it doesn't play nice with HDMI-CEC standards. Every time the bar is powered off, whether from timing out and going into standby or from the TV turning off and sending it the command over the HDMI to turn off it will screw up the ability to use the bar over an HDMI ARC connection to the TV until you go into the sound bars menu options and disable Sony's version of CEC, then reenable it. If you leave CEC disabled you can get sound and it works fine but then you have to use the bar's remote to change volume, the same as if you had connected it with an optical cable.
If you're going to connect it with the TOSLINK optical cable it's a good product. If you don't care about constantly switching remotes, it's fine. BUT if you want your TV to control the volume and auto-power the sound bar you'll have to be willing to screw around in the menu every time the thing is power cycled.
Hopefully Sony will fix this and it will work in the future but right now connecting to the TV via HDMI ARC is only half functional in my book.

The Most Affordable & Powerful Setup On A Budget

I Purchased this sound bar after 3 months of research to help improve my movie viewing experience and immersion. What you get in this package is a great sound bar and an amazing subwoofer. The Bravia Sync work well for communicating between all my devices with the occasional de-sync when fast switching inputs. Lets be clear; is it the best sounding system, no and the design is slightly eccentric for all taste, but if your like me and are budget conscious with limited space then the CT260H is a great purchase

I am living in a small apartment now and no longer have room for all the speaker wire and cables needed for my old surround system. Plus it was very heavy and had started acting up. I was amazed to discover the great sound quality and depth of base I got from this soundbar system. it fits beautifully under my TV; and with the blue tooth capability, I will no longer have to worry about tripping over wires. Installation was a snap as well. I did lots of research before purchase and this soundbar received the highest ratings.
Thanks, Sony for a great product!

Completely Satisfied!

I have had this sound bar for almost 1 month. I have been completely satisfied! My wife gave me a sound bar for Father's Day this year to accompany our new Sony Bravia. It was a Philips sound bar with wireless sub. I was impressed with the sound, but even when hooked up through HDMI ARC, the picture was never in sync with the audio and the audio sync adjustment on the sound bar could not correct it. in addition, the sub would intermittently cut out during movie or tv playback. I took it back after a week and bought the Sony. OH MY WORD AT THE DIFFERENCE! if I want, the bass will lift me up off the floor! Voices are clear, audio is in sync always, sub is constant, setup is easy & choices are abundant. I also love that there is a nighttime setting that cuts the bass down and brings out the voices clearly so as not to disturb others. Bass is still full and completes the sound field, but is not punchy. I have been very impressed with this purchase and would highly recommend this sound bar to anyone. Sony has a reputation for quality, and this seems to match the quality of the other Sony products that I own.

I have been a Sony loyalist for 30 years. I've had Walkmans, stereos, VHS/CD players and currently have 3 Sony trinitrons. I bought this sound bar and a 50"r450 bravia to replace my 36" HD Trinitron that died. Bad idea, the new TV and sound bar don't hold a candle to my old TV. The reviews for the sound bar were overwhelmingly great. I disagree. I thought Bose systems were bass heavy but this sound bar is extreme. Even with the bass turned all the way down, its still overpowering. With an iPod hooked up and the volume maxed it not very loud at all! Thought I could use it as a stereo, not a chance. The sound on just my old TV way much better than the whole soundbar. I have it unplugged and its now just a dust collector. I was a huge Sony fan, but not anymore. These new products just don't compare to the old ones. I think I'm moving on to another brand, I've had good luck LG appliances, think I'll go that route next

Sounds great. Sub woofer bass level superb. I did a lot of sound comparison and nothing came close to the subwoofers base in its price range. Typical sony quality. My only dislike is that the setup menu is a little difficult to use and not many of options.
