Like HR Tax Software and have used for several years but the 2018 State of Michigan software has a significant bug I found. If you had Taxable Wages but paid "$0" in State Income tax the software did not generate a Schedule W 2018 Michigan Withholding Tax Form to file with the return. This would cause the return to be immediately rejected. I found this when helping my recently employed son do his 2018 return. He would have never figured it out because is not familiar with filing State of Michigan taxes which always requires a Schedule W if you had taxable income to report. I found when entered "$1" in State Tax paid it worked fine. Schedule W is required when you have Taxable Wages and shouldn't depend on if you paid State tax or not. Please test your software in many cases to make sure it actually works.
