Having relied on H&R Block Deluxe (and its predecessor TaxCut) for all my filings, I find that the program can meet my tax filing requirements. I like the Tools feature, and document many of my computations for future reference. I would rely on the Block Audit Guarantee if I ever needed the support.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

I have been using H&R Block Deluxe software for many years, and have always found it to be accurate, reliable and generally easy to use. I certainly appreciate the convenience of year-to-year information carryover, and having the option to download data directly from financial companies. I would rate it 5 stars except for a problem I've had the past 2 years with the "Excess Accumulations" branch, which basically asks you to re-enter your normal RMD's even after having previously tallied them earlier in the program. This needs to be clarified as applying strictly to excess accumulations, otherwise you are doubling your RMD's!

H&R Block Federal software is fairly easy to use. Some functions are hard to find - for instance updating the software. The Schedule A deductions for medical expenses is not as robust as it should be. It could prompt by more categories.
The Michigan State tax software was incorrect. Social Security payments are not taxable in Michigan. I had to abandon it and fill in the forms manually. Made me angry that I paid for it. Will not make that mistake next year. Social Security is not taxable in Michigan

I found this version to be disappointing. The fed form worked out okay, but when I worked on my West Virginia tax forms, I got a rude surprise. WV enacted a feature that allows your presonal property tax to be a direct tax credit. To claim the tax credit you must have a letter (MV-1) from the state. Some countines in WV do not send in the proper information to the state, so the state cannot send out the letter. The program handled doing the tax credit okay. But, when it came time to file, I was informed I could not E-file, due to the lack of the letter - that I must file a paper return. Other tax programs, have a feature that allows you to E-File, and then submit a paper affidavit, regarding the missing MV-1 letter. With H&R, I had to file a paper return, provide my affidavit, mail my return certified mail.
