Great Upgrade from the Fold 7, despite the camera

Great upgrade from the Fold 7, but the camera layout could be better
I upgraded from the Fold 7 to the Fold 8 Wide, and overall I really, really like this phone. The wider size is a big improvement for me. It feels more comfortable to use, and I prefer the proportions of the Fold 8 Wide over my Fold 7.
My biggest complaint is the camera placement and orientation. When holding the phone in portrait mode to take a picture, I frequently find myself putting my finger over the flash. I think the camera module would work much better in a landscape orientation across the top of the phone. There is plenty of width available, and that layout would give you more room to hold the phone naturally without your fingers getting in the way of the camera or flash.
I also think the cameras themselves could be better. They aren't bad, but for a premium phone at this price point, I expected a little more from the camera quality. Fortunately, photography isn't a primary function for me, so it doesn't take away much from how much I enjoy the phone.
Overall, I'm very happy with the Fold 8 Wide. Coming from the Fold 7, I definitely prefer the new size and form factor. If Samsung improved the camera quality and reconsidered the camera/flash layout on the next version, it would address my biggest complaints.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the z fold 8. I usually do not buy phones every year but this time I am glad I switched from the fold 7 to the fold 8. I chose the z fold 8 because I mainly use it for media and viewing my spreadsheets.
The fold 7 had a form factor that is not well balanced while holding in your had. What do I mean by well balanced? If you hold the fold 7 or fold 8 ultra you will noticed how much back support you have to give the phone in order to hold it. Because the "heavy" camera lens is way at the top relative to the rest of the body, which is light, you will feel the noticeable weight the cameras bring as you try to hold it at the bottom because you're naturally trying to hold the phone to type or browse.
I definitely used the front screen on the fold 7 more than I had opened it and I knew very well that the fold 7 screen was still too narrow (I went from fold 4 to fold 7). It was definitely worth the upgrade from fold 4 to 7. However, compared the fold 8 this is THE form factor for most people. I didnt buy the fold 8 for the decreased black bars, I already knew the size of videos are still roughly the same when comparing fold 7 to fold 8. I chose the fold 8 because I needed something more subtle, well balanced on my hand, and has a better front experience. The only time I open any fold was whenever I needed to watch a movie or needed two apps open while at work.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this phone, not only because of the size but the quality of it. It's very pocket size a bit bigger then the z flip 7 that I had before for obvious reasons but I like how small it is compared to a regular phone and also how I don't have to necessarily open the phone to use the apps that I have. When I open the phone I usually just play video games or watch movies which is basically the whole point of the phone. I just love its function so much, and the features as well.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is so good. I've been waiting for a wide fold phone that I can use in the U.S. for a couple of years. Immediately the food 8 was announced, I placed an order. It is the only form that makes sense to have a folded phone. When folded, the phone is the perfect size for carrying in the pocket, and when unfolded, wow, great for everything, video, gaming, multitasking, etc.
I am so glad that I chose Samsung and sticked to it for a number of years now. The phone is amazing!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great phone! So many features! Wide screen but still small enough for a pocket. So happy with my purchase, I recommend it!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I chose to upgrade from the Z fold 6 to the 8. I was very pleased with the 6 series and was reluctant to upgrade since the 6 series performed so well. I was surprised to find the Z fold 8 though lighter and more compact was actually the same size as the 6 when open and turned vertically. There was no perceived loss of screen size. I could stream and enjoy movies and apps with ease. The 8 series is user friendly. The picture and camera quality are exceptional. Style, sophistication, organization, and performance that does not disappoint. The Z fold 8 makes a statement without me having to utter a word. Experience it for yourself.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I chose the Galaxy Z Fold8, and I absolutely love it. From the moment I started using it, it felt like a major step forward in what a smartphone can be. What I love most is how seamlessly it fits into my daily life. When it’s folded, it’s easy to carry and use like a regular phone, but opening it up gives me a beautiful, spacious screen that makes everything more enjoyable. Whether I’m browsing, watching videos, managing work, multitasking, or just relaxing, having that larger display makes a huge difference. The multitasking experience is one of my favorite parts. I can have multiple apps open and move between them without constantly switching back and forth. It’s especially useful for work, where I can reference information while taking notes or responding to messages. The design also feels premium and refined. It’s impressive how Samsung continues to make a foldable phone feel so sleek while still giving you such a large display when you need it. I also really appreciate how well it fits into the Samsung ecosystem and my everyday routine. It feels less like I’m carrying a phone and more like I have a phone and mini tablet combined into one device. Overall, I chose the Z Fold8 and I’m extremely happy with that decision. It has made my everyday phone experience more productive, more convenient, and honestly a lot more fun. I’m excited to keep discovering everything this phone can do.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed a new phone and I chose the fold 8 instead of the ultra because I fell in love with it's size. I'm really enjoying using it every day, playing games and watching videos. Switching between the front screen and the fold out view has been a new and novel experience for me, it truly feels like a new-gen type of device.
A minor complaint is that I really wish the fold 8 had the camera capability of the ultra version. The camera on my old S23 Ultra was better than this! I believe the smaller Z Fold 8 is, or will be, a more popular choice for consumers, so in my mind there is no reason to limit the better camera options to the bigger, less attractive phones.
The biggest problem I have with the Z Fold 8 is its side (power) button / fingerprint reader is very small. It feels almost flush with the phone, like there isn't really anything there when I try to press the button. For comparison, the volume button is incredibly tactile and easy to use with it being raised off the side like a normal button should be. The power button however feels like it's stuck, and I need to press down with more force for it to work. It does however contain the fingerprint reader, so maybe there are some technical restraints surrounding it. I don't know, but I think it's something that needs to be worked on for future phone models for sure.
I think the Z Fold 8 is pretty amazing, which makes my problems with it that much more disappointing, because it's so close to being a perfect device for me.
