[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I chose the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 9, and I’m very happy with my decision. I’ve been using Samsung watches since the Galaxy Watch 4, so I’ve had the chance to experience several generations.
For me, the Watch 9 is definitely better than the previous models. It feels faster and smoother, the health and fitness features have improved, and the overall experience feels more refined.
One of the biggest improvements I noticed is the battery lif
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Coming from a Watch8, I appreciate the brighter display and new health features (though I haven't yet tested all of them). However, I did not anticipate having to replace my collection of charging pucks - one in shave kit for travel, one in bathroom to charge while bathing, and one in greatroom to charge while watching TV. To make matters worse, there are no OEM Watch9 charging pucks to be found. They're sold out. Samsung, consider including at least 2 pucks when making existing pucks obsolete.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I chose to upgrade my watch 8 to the watch 9 because of the enhanced health monitoring abilities. Several years ago my cardiologist recommended I get one to help track my heart rate & perform on the go ECGs so that I would have data to share with him. Since then I am rarely without my galaxy watch. The 9 upgrades several of the health & safety features. Better fall detection & response, better heart rate monitoring.
I love the added functionality of AI to help send messages, add to the calendar and set up tasks while I'm on the go. As a substitute teacher I often use my watch to set alarms to help me stay on track at school. So I always know when it's time for our next lesson. The calendar connectivity to my family calendar remains a favorite feature as well. They kept all of the good stuff and added a few new things. It's the perfect upgrade.
You can expect the same style as the 8, if you have a favorite custom band it will still fit. The functionally is smoother and faster. It literally feels like I just upgraded my 8.
My only complaint is that it doesn't come in gold. I feel like they keep these masculine casings, which I think they believe are "neutral", but in reality they are masculine. If you are a girlie girl you have to hunt down covers & bands that better fit your personality. That is literally my only complaint.

The bad - I didn't anticipate having to replace my collection of charging pucks (one in shave kit for travel, one in bathroom to charge while bathing, and one in greatroom to charge while watching TV). The Ugly - There are no OEM Watch9 charging pucks to be found. They're sold out. Samsung, consider including at least 2 pucks when making existing pucks obsolete.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I chose to replace my Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 with a Watch 9 because I've always known Samsung as being a leader in progress and innovation. Surely, two years was enough to see a marked improvement over my old watch.
I was wrong.
The only truly notable difference between the 7 and the 9 is the bezel. It's not even a nice difference. It can be distracting under certain lighting conditions, and I fish for the home button more now that it's not rounding the edge. Still, I think I'll grow used to it.
Otherwise, everything is pretty much the same. Compare the specs and there's not much daylight between the two watches. The display feels slightly more crisp, but it's also new. It feels slightly more reactive, I suppose. Maybe it is quicker for AI tasks, but I don't use the AI features...
One noted downgrade is actually the battery. It's slightly larger, yet I find the battery life to be slightly worse. It's had enough time to "settle" so I think this is a feature.
In short: I paid to replace my watch with a slightly less efficient watch wearing a tutu.
Unless your watch is three years old or older, I would wait another year to upgrade. Nothing to see here.

Hey Objective1, Thank you for taking the opportunity to share your candor with us regarding your initial impression of the Samsung Galaxy Watch9. The new Galaxy Watch9 introduces a new cushion shape design, a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite processor, a roughly 30% larger battery on smaller models, and Wear OS 7 with One UI 9 Watch featuring advanced Vitals dashboards and AI health metrics, marking a major upgrade from the Galaxy Watch7. We can't forget that the Galaxy Watch9 bumps outdoor peak brightness to 3,000 nits and introduces 5 years of software support! With new devices, such as your Galaxy Watch9, your device is still indexing, syncing apps, and calibrating to your usage patterns. You're able to fix battery drain, by disabling Always-On Display (AOD), turning off continuous background health checks, and restarting your watch. Also check out the resources shared below to help resolve what you've described. If you would like further assistance afterward, please do not hesitate to reach out to Samsung Support. We're always happy to assist you in every way that we can! Thank you for being a valued Samsung customer. - Debra
