Upgraded from Watch 8 to Watch 9
on August 23, 2026
Posted by: Galaxy3r
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I chose the Samsung Galaxy Smartwatch because it pairs perfectly with my Samsung Galaxy phone. With the Watch 8, I only had to charge it every other night. If I skipped that second night, it would hit power‑save mode halfway through day three — still reasonable. I upgraded to the Watch 9 because it was advertised as having a slightly larger battery. However, my Watch 9 now needs to be charged daily, and I hate that. I can’t even sleep with it on anymore because it won’t make it through the night unless I charge it beforehand. That means I either lose sleep waiting g for a change or I have to carve out time during the day to take it off and charge it — and now I’m carrying a cable to work just to keep a smartwatch alive. I’ve already turned off Wi‑Fi and most automatic health features, but disabling the very features the watch is marketed around defeats the purpose of owning a health‑focused smartwatch. Despite the “larger battery,” I’m getting worse real‑world endurance than I did with my Watch 8. It looks the same, feels the same, and honestly doesn’t offer any noticeable improvements — especially since I’ve had to switch most health tracking to manual just to make it through a full day. The watch has already gone through its “learning” period for my usage, and I never use AOD. Yet the battery life is still disappointing. At this point, I genuinely have buyer’s remorse. I should’ve kept my Watch 8.

Greetings Galaxy3r,
Thank you for taking the time to review your experience using the Samsung Galaxy Watch9. Your constructive insights allow us to continue innovating while making improvements on our product line to best suit your needs. Samsung provides a 12-month warranty on your device for manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. The Galaxy Watch9 is offered in two versions: 40mm with a 390 mAh battery and 44mm with 445 mAh battery. The higher capacity versions allow your Galaxy Watch9 to require less frequency in charging. This means you can keep the Watch powered throughout the day with minimal downtime. While you're using your Galaxy Watch9 without enabling AOD, you should expect to receive about 40 hours of usage time. Up to 30 hours if you're utilizing AOD! It can take some time for your new Galaxy Watch9 to finish background indexing, learning your daily habits, and settling into its normal, optimized battery life. You're able to fix battery drain, by disabling Always-On Display (AOD), turning off continuous background health checks, and restarting your watch. If you're experiencing less than expected battery life on your new device, please take a moment to review the resources provided below to help resolve what you have described. If you have any questions for us or if you would like further assistance, please let us know by contacting Samsung Support. Thank you for being a staunch Samsung customer.

Started out great, 3 weeks later its awful

For the first few weeks I owned my Watch 9, 40mm Bluetooth version, it was great, battery life was excellent. It was comfortable to wear and battery life was as good as my Watch 8. However the last 4 days battery life has been terrible. I cant even get 12 hours out of it before the battery is almost drained. I contacted support, they were no help at all. Unfortunately I traded in my Watch 8 for this Watch 9 and already mailed it back to Samsung. Samsung says if I return my Watch 9, I cant have my Watch 8 back. Which is ridiculous, they know which one they have is mine, because they inspect it and give a report if it passed inspection or not. So now I'm stuck with a useless watch 9. They insist there is nothing wrong with it because the battery test app says its fine, but clearly its not. Also bizarre, its charging way too fast. Normally its 90 minutes to close to 2 hours to charge from 10% to 100%, but when this battery drain issue started, its also charging crazy fast. Like under 30 minutes for 10% to 100%. I dont know if there was an update in the last week, or if it just suddenly became defective, but I'm seeing people on Reddit and Samsung Members app complaining of the same issue. While Samsung pretends nothing is wrong. I've had numerous Samsung watches over the years and never had an issue with any of them. I'm extremely disappointed wit this one. Do better Samsung and stop denying there is a problem and fix it.
