Toaster doesn't toast evenly on both sides, if you set to #3 or above one side is darker and the other side. I keep the toaster on #1 pr #2
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

To ensure evenness throughout the toasting process, make sure that the toaster is sitting on a flat, even surface. If the toaster fails due to defect in materials or workmanship, perhaps you'd rather take advantage of your warranty and make a claim. You can call 1.800.GE.CARES (1-800-432-2737) to begin that process. Happy with the Toaster

Toast is light weight, feels cheap, but does an average JOB. Toast not much better than the GE Toaster it replaced. Wife likes how it lowers and raises the toast. This was suppose to be the best toaster my wife read...

We really like the toaster especially how evenly it toasts along with the bagel and frozen options. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because it smelled like plastic the first few times we used it. That smell had completely gone away after the 4th use.
I would recommend this to a friend!
