The toaster has a square look to it and it has uneven toasting.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us, though we hate to hear you dislike the look of the toaster and have had trouble with uneven toasting; we know issues like those may be inconvenient.
This model’s heating elements are designed to deliver even and consistent toasting, so our Design team will certainly be informed of your concerns for future review and development. We value your feedback, as we always want to ensure we’re aware of any potential areas of concern as well as what our consumers think of our models. Our manual does have a troubleshooting section on page 5, as well as information on your limited warranty if you think you may need to take advantage of it, on page 7: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-9000001-2.pdf .
We hope this information helps, and are happy to assist with any other questions or concerns you may have. -Sarah@GEA
First, the heat up to cure the filaments was so full of smoke it stunk up the kitchen so I took it outside to do it again. It made us start coughing. Second, the first toast we did one side was not browned and the other side was way over done. I’ll update this if tomorrow it gets better. If not I’ll call to return it. That’s why I bought a new one after 14 years..uneven toasting.

Greetings,
Thank you for taking the time to review your toaster. We do apologize for the unpleasant odor and understand how aggravating it is. It is natural for some smoke to appear when curing the elements. We always recommend curing the elements in an empty well ventilated room. We're also sorry to hear about the uneven toasting. We recommend checking to make sure the Frozen button is not pressed and check the browning settings. Take care. Mike@GEA
