After our previous machine broke after 5 years, I decided to purchase this model four months ago.
The Pros:
The ease of cleaning/descaling the machine through the app
The over ice feature
The quality of the brew
The ability to personalize temp, size, etc in the app

The amount of liquid that falls into the drip tray/used pod area is excessive. It spills nearly every time we recycle the pods. Additionally, if we don’t empty and clean the tray daily, mold grows quickly in the summer heat. We went on vacation and left in a hurry, forgetting to clean the tray that day. When we returned after 6 days, there were maggots crawling in the tray.

I have been a loyal and loving Nespresso consumer for over 10 years. This is our third machine and the first I have been extremely disappointed in. The required frequency of cleaning in order to maintain basic health and safety standards is overwhelming and detracts from the efficiency of a pod based machine. Before purchasing, I read other reviews about the water in the drip tray/used pod basin, but thought maybe those machines were lemons based on the overall positive average rating. I should have trusted those customers. If I could do it over, I would purchase a different machine.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

A Step UP!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed a replacement for my old, tired and broken Nespresso machine. The Up was my choice because of the more user friendly design for inserting the capsules. It makes the same great coffee and looks sleeker on my countertop. The one criticism I have is the used capsule container is very small and must be emptied frequently.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Awesome upgrade from an original Vertuo machine

It is a great upgrade from the original Nespresso Vertuo machine that I had. That machine lasted for about 10 years!!
Use the descaling and rinse cycle when the machine indicates, and they brew consistently for a very long time!!!

The plus side is that it makes coffee quickly, and the over-ice setting is really useful. The large water tank and the fact that it takes large capsules are also good features.
The downside is that it makes a mess inside the machine.
It drips water into the used capsule tray, and you need to clean it constantly.

Terrible waste tray design & mold risk

I had used a De'Longhi-built VertuoPlus daily since it first launched back in 2016. That original motorized machine was an absolute tank that ran reliably for nearly a decade until the pump finally gave out. Replacing it with this Vertuo Up has been a massive disappointment and an utter mess to live with.
The biggest flaw with this machine is the internal capsule disposal and drip tray design:
Shallow tray & pooling water: The internal pod collection bin sits on a slotted insert inside a shallow slide-out drawer that constantly fills with dirty coffee water. Every time you pull the bin out to empty pods, you are forced to balance a shallow pool of murky liquid that easily sloshes and spills over the low edges.
Rapid mold growth: Because wet, used capsules sit trapped directly over stagnant hot liquid inside an enclosed compartment, mold and fungus start growing before the bin is even full. It’s unsanitary and frustrating.
High-maintenance cleanup: With the 2016 VertuoPlus, you simply popped the external pod container off, dumped the dry pods into a recycling bag, and clicked it back in. With this unit, emptying pods turns into a delicate trip to the sink every single time to wash out a flooded, dirty tray.
Blind pod bin & jamming: Unlike older models where you could clearly see when the capsule bin was reaching capacity, this design offers zero visibility. You only discover it’s packed when the top-loading slot jams while trying to drop in a new pod.
Build quality: The manual lever and plastics feel noticeably cheaper than the heavy-duty motorized builds of the past.
The only positive:
The Nespresso app connectivity is genuinely convenient for triggering rinse, cleaning, and descaling cycles without having to memorize cryptic button combinations.

Bottom Line:
If you’re coming from the older De'Longhi motorized Vertuo line that lasted forever, prepare for frustration. The messy cleanup, lack of bin visibility, and constant standing water inside the pod compartment make this a major step backward.
