Amazing!!! I love it, my brother seemed to have fallen in love with it as well. I let him borrow it all the time whenever he skateboards! He said its perfect camera to take skating videos.
The resolution of the CS-8 is great and my preference is shoot in 4:3 with Vintage Filter 1, which adds warm tones and gorgeous reds to the lens flares. The camera's fixed focus zoom lens is brilliant, which again adds to the speed of use. The camera’s exposure system is automatic, as is the white balance and the shutter is either fixed or automatic.
To download the files from the CS-8 camera, I make sure the camera is switched off, I connect via the USB-C cable to (supplied) to my Mac Pro, switch it on and the camera mounts as a drive with a media folder inside containing . MP4 files to drag and drop (DO NOT DELETE THE FOLDER, but you can delete you video files once downloaded). The files work seamlessly when imported into any professional non-linear editing software and the whole process is very easy.
Additionally because the camera styling and zoom lens is modelled on a particular Super8 camera from 1971, it was begging for me to fit an 2x anamorphic lens to it (see picture) from the same decade. Again the results are fantastic because of the sharp zoom lens.
I’m very happy with the CS-8 camera and the moment I saw it advertised in the Hollywood Reporter I bought it without hesitation. The CS-8 makes shooting video inspiring again, as opposed to the drab experience of shooting video on a mobile film (which I don’t do).
One last thing, I highly recommend getting a wrist strap for the CS-8 camera, as with all cameras, once dropped on a hard service it likely to damage the camera and lens considerably.
This video camera is really everything I hoped it would be. The filters are really neat and the overall experience is what I was hoping for. Thank you!
I haven't had as much time to play with it yet as I'd like, but I am already in love with it. I always wanted a video camera growing up, but we were never able to have one. Smartphones with video cameras are fine, but it's not the same. This is everything I've ever wanted. Plus a vintage look and feel that gives it class. I love the different filters and aspect ratios, combining modern technology with a classic vibe.
Super easy and fun video camera! At this point I have only played around with it / changed settings and such. I think it'll be a fun little camera to have especially to add that vintage feel to videos from personal work to professional work.
The only con I have is in order to access the memory card / change it out you have to unscrew the piece that holds it in. This step makes accessing the memory card a little more difficult. Per their website it says that you can put a 128gb sd card in which is up to 16 hours of video. I would still love the flexibility of getting to the memory card easier.
This thing is great, but I can’t give it 5-Stars because you created a “Film” styled camera that shoots 30fps. A HUGE oversight in my opinion. The ease of use, the filters and aspect ratios are great and the zoom along with the wide angle lens and infinity focus is all great. But again, a film camera that shoots 30fps takes all these amazing features and trust it into lame looking videos. SO, some post-production work is needed if you want to Mae it look more like film!
