The resolution of the CS-8
on October 1, 2025

The resolution of the CS-8 is great and my preference is shoot in 4:3 with Vintage Filter 1, which adds warm tones and gorgeous reds to the lens flares. The camera's fixed focus zoom lens is brilliant, which again adds to the speed of use. The camera’s exposure system is automatic, as is the white balance and the shutter is either fixed or automatic.
To download the files from the CS-8 camera, I make sure the camera is switched off, I connect via the USB-C cable to (supplied) to my Mac Pro, switch it on and the camera mounts as a drive with a media folder inside containing . MP4 files to drag and drop (DO NOT DELETE THE FOLDER, but you can delete you video files once downloaded). The files work seamlessly when imported into any professional non-linear editing software and the whole process is very easy.
Additionally because the camera styling and zoom lens is modelled on a particular Super8 camera from 1971, it was begging for me to fit an 2x anamorphic lens to it (see picture) from the same decade. Again the results are fantastic because of the sharp zoom lens.
I’m very happy with the CS-8 camera and the moment I saw it advertised in the Hollywood Reporter I bought it without hesitation. The CS-8 makes shooting video inspiring again, as opposed to the drab experience of shooting video on a mobile film (which I don’t do).
One last thing, I highly recommend getting a wrist strap for the CS-8 camera, as with all cameras, once dropped on a hard service it likely to damage the camera and lens considerably.

Good and not so good

Honestly, very nostalgic and a cool item for memorializing events and gatherings. Would be nice to have a playback feature even if it was just in the eye viewing screen. Also, deleting videos and freeing up space from the unit itself would be a great feature. As it stands now, the only way to do that is by removing the SD card (which is a process in it of itself) hooky it up to a laptop or pc and then download the information. That’s a bit tedious if you ask me. Lastly, add a locking feature to the record button rather than always having to have your finger depressing the button. It seems to me these are very simple programming improvements that could be made rather quickly and affordable that would change the game for the Camp Snap camera.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Photographers Approved — We're Obsessed! 🎥

As professional photographers, we're pretty picky about cameras — so when we say the CS-8 blew us away, we mean it! 🎥✨
This little gem is pure magic. The no-screen concept sounds wild at first, but that's exactly what makes it so special. It forces you to stay present and actually experience the moment instead of immediately reviewing every shot. Our clients are absolutely obsessed with it — and honestly? So are we.
The film-inspired filters (especially ANA mode!) give footage that gorgeous, textured 8mm feel that
we spend hours trying to recreate in post. The fact that it does it in-camera is kind of unbelievable.
The aspect ratio options mean it's just as useful for cinematic widescreen as it is for Reels-ready vertical content.
We even created a reel using the CS-8 — check it out here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DVe25q3lOH4/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
If you're a photographer, filmmaker, content creator, or just someone who wants to capture life without being glued to a screen — the CS-8 is a must-have. We can't keep our clients off of it! 📽️🤍

Could be better but still awesome as is

I love it, it's so fun and easy to use. I bring it on every adventure so my my phone isn't overloaded with all the videos I like to take, and it keeps me in the moment not being able to review anything until I get home to download it all. I do recommend switching out the SD card for something larger as soon as you get it so you don't have to worry about running out of space. There's 2 things that I think would make it even better: 1.) a lens cover, I'm always paranoid I'm gonna scratch it. 2.) the ability to lock the trigger while recording so I could pass the camera around to friends or flip it around to face myself without a break in the recording or having to maneuver my hand in a weird way.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Fun Vintage Look, but More
on October 14, 2025

Fun Vintage Look, but More of an expensive toy than a serious camera
I’ve been using the CS-8 Digital Video Camera to film around my home and family. I love the analog meters and the retro Super 8-style design — it definitely looks cool sitting on a shelf or in your hand.
That said, it feels more like a novelty item than a serious camera. The body is made of lightweight plastic that doesn’t inspire much confidence; if it took a tumble, I doubt it would survive. The small screws on the SD card door are especially cheap and seem like they’ll strip out over time.
Image quality isn’t terrible, but don’t expect it to replicate the look of real Super 8 film — it’s more digital with a retro flair than true vintage.
Overall, it’s a fun gadget for casual use or nostalgia, but not something I’d rely on for serious filming.

needs some kind of lens
on January 1, 2026

needs some kind of lens cap or cover. it is exposed all the time, including if you want to take it out with you, so this kind of defeats the purpose. also, the view in the viewfinder isn’t the same view as the actual footage. the footage is clearer than the viewfinder view and the size is different.

It’s fun but to me looks like a phone video. I’ve had to put extra filters on it.

This is a fun little
on October 6, 2025

This is a fun little camera that’s a great tag along on weekend adventures or gatherings to capture candid moments. The analog buttons as well as the battery and storage meters are quirky and clever. The variety of shooting modes and aspect ratios are very smart as well. I really like the trigger as the record button, maybe a lock to either hold down or inhibit recording would be useful though.
The biggest and most egregious problem with this hip device is how the f@&! do I get the videos off it?!? I’ve been a content creator for over 20 years and have worked with all manner of formats and camera gear and I can’t think of anything that has given me such a hassle. Where the hell is the SD card? Under a plate secured by 2 tiny screws? Ridiculous. I should not need a tool to swap a card. Also, none of my devices have a USB-C port so I can’t even import directly from the camera.
I want to like this. It is a home run aesthetically, but as a practical video camera it handles like a prototype. Add a proper door for the SD card slot, maybe a hot-shoe on the top for an external mic or light and a nice carry bag and you’ll have a great gadget.
