Defective on Arrival – Major Quality Issues
on May 12, 2026
Posted by: eastbase
I preordered this monitor for its specs, but the hardware is a total failure. As shown in images, the backlight is broken and the pixels are damaged, causing massive light bleed and a distorted image right out of the box.
I’ve already seen another review reporting this exact defect, suggesting a widespread manufacturing flaw. This is a massive disappointment for a premium preorder.
Verdict: Avoid until quality control improves. Returning immediately.

Defective out of the box

Paid a premium and received a defective monitor. These are brand new and have not stood the test of time. Buyer beware!!! Either wait a year for them to fix all the defective units, or buy elsewhere.

Not what I was hoping for…so far.

I’ve been waiting a long time for a nice 5K display with a high refresh rate. And I was really hoping this monitor was the one. However, since taking delivery last week after pre-ordering, I’m sad to say it’s not rendering full 218 ppi fidelity across the entire panel. Specifically, the right side of the display is a noticeably lower quality.
I received two of these monitors and have tested them together and individually, on DisplayPort and USB-C (using the included cables), and on macOS, Fedora Linux, and Windows 11. All operating systems were fully update-to-date and AMD’s Radeon software was installed and up-to-date on Windows.

27GM950B-B, no point in purchasing an oled
on May 4, 2026
Posted by: HAL9000computer
27GM950B-B monitor arrived on 05/01, pre-ordered. This 5K@165hz FALD monitor replaces a 27" 4K@160hz FALD, which reached end of life after many years of continued use - this was an excellent monitor for its day. This computer and monitor are used several hours a day, every day of the week, for both productivity and gaming. Using an OLED was concerning about static image burn in and downtime for screen maintenance.
The 27GM950B-B is a step in the right direction in several ways, including thinner profile, no noticeable blooming from viewing distance, noticeable improvement on color & brightness & contrast ratios, DP2.1, etc.
Windows auto recognized this monitor as 2K@330hz, but needed to be configured for 5K@165hz. The monitor has AI for up verting from 2K to 5K, including video. Using 2K@330hz native and the monitor AI up verting worked surprisingly well. Also, using the 5090 for 5K@165hz frame generation worked well, which the AI up verting in the monitor can then be disabled - no point in both of them doing the same job.
For gaming, RDO and SOTTR were configured and tested, both at 5K@120hz (both games limited refresh rate to 120hz, for 5K) and also at 2K@330hz using the monitor AI to up vert to 5K. For these games, there was no noticeable advantage of the 330hz over the 120hz; both games are response limited based on internal game settings associated with the game paddle configuration. There was no noticeable difference in picture quality between the 5090 generated 5K (with and/or without AI up verting) and the 5090 generating 2K with the monitor AI up verting to 5K. If there is a difference in total lag in any of these configurations, I cannot tell the difference.
It will take a monitor expert to explain how this works and provide a recommendation on how to best configure and use this monitor. Until then, replacing the 4K monitor, we decided to keep windows at 5K@165hz, and the games at 5K@120hz. We have external speakers, so the monitor speakers were disabled. I occasionally use a headset for gaming, so I will someday soon test using the monitor AI for headsets.
