I used the Rug Doctor for many years. Yes, it is a tank, but does not pull nearly as much out as the Big Green. I did our upstairs in half the time---half! I love the new solid plastic brushes compared to typical old fashion vacuum roller brushes that just bend and get clogged. Think of it like using a rake compared to a broom on the carpet. This is also amazing that it can clean pushing and pulling - and it doesn't hurt that the Big Green is significantly lighter and it moves faster. I also love the size of the clean water tank. With the Rug Doctor, I could fill the clean tank three times before I needed to empty the dirty tank. This goes much further on a tank.
At twice the cost of many home units, we have long avoided buying any of these Bissell models that are rated for both commercial and home use. When we were recently forced to discard two previously purchased Hoover carpet cleaners, our frustration at the overall build quality and ease of operation finally persuaded us to spend the extra needed to get the Bissell Big Green Pet Pro. It has not disappointed. With some effort I have been able to get good results from cleaning units like Hoover. Slow passes, downward pressure added, and so forth. The Bissell Big Green Pet Pro differs in simply requiring less work and time to get the same results. Also, the overall size of the solution tank and extraction collection tank means that the same area that required three refills with the Hoover can now be cleaned on a single tank of solution and extraction. As promoted, the unit cleans well. It is somewhat noisy and I found the additional handheld extraction (the Pet Stain tool) is good, but does not perform quite as well as the standard 6" tool that is standard with the Big Green product line. The difference is not enough if the handle extraction resovoir built into the Pet Stain tool is important (it catches most foul smelling things like dog poo or vomit rather than dumping them into the main extraction catch tank). I would also note, although I'm not sure I can prove it matters, the overall build quality looks and feels noticeably more robust than the previous models I have bought over the years.
I now know this will be far easier to push around than it looks. It drops a perfect amount of water, soaps and suds up, and suctions with an impressive amount of force. The main vacuum doesn’t navigate closely to the wall or tight corners around door frames, but what I’m starting to understand is that cleaning my home carpets with this is a multi-day, half-room-at-a-time task. A section of carpet needs vacuuming and pre-treatment (spray it down) and a few passes with the main shampooer; then you wait a day and use to hose to hit up the 4 inch area nearest the wall; then you wait a day and come back to vacuum and shampoo one last time. If you do what I’ve described with this machine, your carpets can go from years of needing a deep clean to dang inviting floors. I’ve done it myself, and it couldn’t be easier.
I have been through 2 home carpet cleaners, could not get one pass. We are in a rental and the carpets need some serious help. One cleaning and carpets are so much better. Plan on one more cleaning to see how much is left. I should have bought this first and not messed with the baby cleaners.
I love this machine! It has changed the smell in my house (I use it very slowly). I’ve used it on all my carpet. I have 2 dachshunds who are still learning to potty train and have way too many accidents. This machine has saved my carpets!
I have two Alapaha bulldogs and they drool a lot. I was able to clean all area rugs perfectly, even the shaggy area rugs. I also cleaned both oversized sofas and one over side chair with ease.
I really love this machine. I’ve been a long time Bissell user for years and have always stuck with their basic/mid tier carpet shampooers because I couldn’t afford the Big Green. I heard good reviews about it and was able to afford it during Black Friday, so I figured I’d try it out. The Big Green is phenomenal and a whole new level - their basic and mid tier cleaners work great but this is like top notch! It cleans so effortlessly and it helps lighten & soften my carpet so good. Some pros I have for this machine include: a long powder cord, a comfortable handle, a button sprayer vs trigger (which my fingers appreciate), elite cleaning power and results, and the large tanks - I love not having to stop every 10 minutes to empty & refill the tanks! There are only two cons for this but I love the machine and it works great, so the pros overpower these - the machine is really heavy so you’ll get tired after a while of pushing and pulling. I also found it difficult to maneuver under desks, tables & beds with low clearance that the other lower tiers could usually fit under. Turning corners/going around a wall is pretty difficult because of its bulkiness and weight. These are a bit inconvenient but like I said, the pros make it totally worth it.
Some tips I have that have made my carpet cleaning easier & more effective are: vacuuming thoroughly first, pretreating with an outdoor pump sprayer & using hot water (but to not exceed the maximum temp). As you push, go at an average pace while spraying. When you pull back, walk slow so it gets deep into the fibers & sucks up most of the water. Once you’re done, fill the water tank with JUST hot water and repeat the process. This helps pull up any extra surface dirt and soap, which reduces the amount of dirt that would get stuck versus if you didn’t do a rinse round
I would recommend this to a friend!
