HP makes an easy to use tank printer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First, the packaging: Open the box, lift out the included supplies box, and there is the printer. It is stored in the box in a bag with 2 handles on it, so you can easily lift the printer out of the box! Kudos, HP. I was surprised how quickly it put a smile on my face.
The included manual does handle manual setup, but I wanted to test out he smart app.
It found the printer almost immediately, and walked me step by step through each step of setting up my printer.
Getting it connected to my network was breeze, and took less than a minute.
Installing the ink in a tank printer was a whole new experience for me, very satisfying to see how much ink goes into the printer.
Quick and easy with no mess at all.
Printing from mobile devices is painless, I was able to remotely print from my office in another state to my house in one try.
It does print a little slow in color, but I am a causal printer, so I am not in a huge hurry.
Black prints are clear and bold and colors look natural and not overly saturated.
There is supposedly 2 years of ink included with the printer, I should be able to get more than that but only time will tell.
Overall, the setup was painless, and getting it connected to my wireless network was painless as well.
I should add that I already had an HP Smart account, but it took me longer to figure out my password than it did to set up this printer.
Build quality is what I would expect from this pricepoint, but it's sturdy enough without feeling heavy, and it takes up a relatively small footprint.
This is mostly because the paper feed is in the back, and there isn't a big output tray to account for.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I replaced my old printer with the HP Smart Tank 5103 and I drug my feet a few days before I decided to set it up because I was dreading the set up process. Let me tell you it was the absolute easiest printer I have ever set up! I set it up through my computer and the directions were simple, step by step and included pictures with each step. It basically set itself up really. Totally hassle free. It prints out very vibrant colors and crisp lines in a very short time so that is another plus. I have printed out at least 30 pages of full color images and the ink tanks are still full. Besides being easy to set up its also very easy to use. Totally recommend this printer for anyone looking to replace your old printer or especially if this would be your first printer. HP set the bar high on this one!!

Great printer with lots of ink!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been very iffy on HP printers over the years, but I figured I would give this tank version that takes ink bottles instead of cartridges. I hated cartridges and absolutely love the bottle ink into the tanks, it's easy to install the ink, the whole setup was easy , I did have a hickup at first with my Internet, but that was my issue with my modem which I fixed. I was able to connect it to my computer and phone via Wi-Fi and the app with no issues, the rest of the setup went by great. I love that you get photo paper with this to which I have printed out photos of my daughter and they have came out beautiful as they should, no complaint. I've also printed several documents for our homeschool and also lots of coloring pages. The size of the machine is perfect, not so big and not so small, all the buttons and screen function right and easy to read. The pages print at a good pretty good speed to, faster than any of my other printers I had. Overall I absolutely love this HP tank printer. I'm glad I got it.

All you need to print cute pictures at home

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Honestly this printer exceeded my expectations, the design is pretty, It was easy to set it up, I'm happy to say I didn't need my husband's help, the instructions are pretty clear, it was also easy and satisfying to install the ink in the tanks and it was mess free. I was pleasantly surprised knowing my printer included ink for a year and a pack of photograph paper. I have printed some cute pictures and they came out great, the color is super saturated, I like that I can scan, print documents and photos in the same printer at low cost. Another thing I really like is the Hp smart app, it makes printing very easy and they have also cool printable stuff and you can easily print photos or document from your phone or any device.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This printer really impressed me with how crisp and bright the pages print, I am also extremely impressed with the print quality of photos! They look just like the ones you get from the instant photo kiosks! Very clear and look great!

Fantastic printer for mobile users!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted to use this specifically for the features provided by the HP Smart app. I did not need to use a computer at any point during the setup process, and I'm able to print photos from my phone with no problems at all.
Wireless setup was very easy, although I did need to turn off and on the printer and app a few times to get things to connect. My phone is a bit older, so this may not even be a concern for most, but I found that my note 9 was able to handle the app and setup easily..
Setup is very straightforward - the app guides you along every step of the way, including what tape to peel off, what cardboard to remove, and what parts to insert at what time. Following step by step did not leave me with any questions like "did I miss something", or "what do I do with xyz". They include a full color quick start guide as well for those who want to get an overview of the process first.
The ink tank is the best part of this printer. The tanks are easy to access, but hidden from normal use with small windows to show a visual level of ink remaining. The ink is easy to fill and I had no spills or drips whatsoever during the fill process.
You do need to push down a little harder than you might expect during the initial fill - there is a piece in the bottle that keeps the ink fresh in storage and that gets popped out internally when you fill for the first time. The caps go on securely, and there is more black ink for later!
The printer does its own automatic head alignment with the scanner, so this is one step I'm glad not to do. Older printers used to make you look at a list, and try to pick the best one by eye. The automatic process yields perfect results. Make sure you have some paper handy for this - no paper suitable for this is included.
Once everything is set and connected, the HP Smart app gives plenty of options for what you can do. You can print photos directly from your phone, and you can also scan and save to the phone as well.
Document print quality is fantastic with crisp lines and sharp text, and photo quality is great enough for sharing with family and friends.
The paper tray is set up in a way where it can be hidden during non-use, and easily supports letter size paper without any sagging of the pages.
Overall, the HP SmartTank 5103 is a great device for those who are more mobile-centric users, and those that do not always want to use a PC to print. With a full featured app, and excellent printer

Ready when you are

I love that I can manually fill the ink from refill bottles, that way I can control how much ink I want so the ink will not dry by not using the specific color for long period of time.
Based on my calculations this printer give me the best cost per page compare to every other printer I ever owned.
