After many years of using Turbotax i found the new version that keeps wanting more money for other features annoying. The inability to transfer my last year's tax return into this year's return was frustrating. There were also no clear instructions on how to make a tax.2024 file to transfer my saved Turbotax filing from last year into this year's.

Free online filing was easy like the desktop method until the ID.me part came. It was supposed to be required for an IRS issued PIN. It was very convoluted & circular. After uploading ID docs twice, it promised an email in 2-3 days setting a video appointment to verify identity which never happened & I never received a PIN before finally uploading ID once again on day 3, then was able to complete e-filing. I almost gave up and opted to mail after all. Still don't know if the ID.me PIN thing was legit. In the end I appreciated being able to combine my federal & state refunds into one deposit.

My Tax Partner Over The Years

I've been using TurboTax for many years, and I have never been disappointed. Whether the desktop version or online I have found it to be as painless as taxes can possibly be. I've filed amended returns this was also, and compared to the olden days of doing taxes by hand on paper (guess I'm dating myself) this is waaaay better. The program asks questions and you give it answers...it does the rest. I started filing 1040EZ returns when I was making minimum wage and over the tears I have moved up to needing the premiere version to track my investment gains and (many more) losses! TurboTax handles every scenario with ease.

TurboTax trys to overcharge, and is more expensive

I was frustrated that TurboTax was unable to connect to my financial institutions sufficiently, even in the instances where I didn't need a document, it should have been able to determine that. Some information that used to transfer year to year was lost (like deposit info). The continuous effort to add added services I didn't use at additional costs is making me re-consider using TurboTax next year. I'm not sure I would recommend the service to others.
