State filing glitchy, extra fees with credit card

State filing still glitchy after all these years. I was made to enter information that the state can withdraw my tax directly from bank, then separately told to print a form and mail a check for the same amount to the state. Got a fat "convenience fee" for paying with debit card. Lame. Come on folks.
