Trapped me in paying for premium due to a 1099-Misc form worth $20.91. The only alternative being I do all my taxes over again and spend god knows how long trying to report the measly income on the right place, right form. Premium was advertised as $59 and charged me $89, plus a surprise super fun $40 processing fee, I assume because Intuit is doing their mail via Pony Express. Absolute bull.
Turbotax has a long-standing problem of listing stocks sales incorrectly as Coverdell ESA accounts and refuses to fix the problem. I upload 1099's from Vanguard and at the end of the session, it tells me these are Coverdell distributions but I have never had a Coverdell account. Since Turbotax doesn't let you progress your return or leave a note about what this problem is, you have to make-up a date of sale for "Coverdell" units I never had, let alone sold and hope it doesn't cause a problem down the line.
This causes undue stress on the user because now I'm worried about getting a letter from the government because Turbotax refuses to fix a long-standing issue. I have no clue how an uploaded Vanguard and Robinhood 1099 is miscalculated as a Coverdell ESA but it is and you can not manually correct it. You also can you not contact a human being unless you pay them even more money, so you just have to hope that whoever processes your forms looks at the pdf's and realizes Turbotax's software's mistakes.
I'm most likely through with them at this point as others have mentioned this same problem in the past and it still pops up.
