Severely lacking on ROTH conversions and state tax

Severely lacking on ROTH conversions and state tax prep. I had a problem with an underpayment penalty being added to my taxes for a ROTH conversion with estimated taxes being paid in the same quarter as the conversion. I am a W-2 employee with taxes withheld and paid every 2 weeks. I was forced to annualize my income for both federal and state (AL). The annualized income entry for state required duplicating work and did not offer much help at all. I just had to guess what I needed to enter. For the amount of time that was required for me to enter everything I am seriously considering finding a CPA to handle this in the future.

There has to be a better way

Ease of use is good, but predatory pricing if you have any information beyond a standard W2. Taxation for middle/lower class in this country is already outrageous enough without getting nickel and dime'd.
