There are a lot of confusing things going on as this app brings you along the pathway. Some very complicated things not explained well (Foreign Tax Credit). And average minimum tax not really explained at all. Some infinite loops on review. The Bulk Edit only seems to allow an edit of 2 fields, when 4 fields must be completed. I get errors about missing data on my forms from institutions which I am expected to correct (the form from the institution has no value there). For example, I'm told that a State must be entered on my 1099-INT, but there IS no state on that form, and no numeric value in the amount box. But it won't accept a blank there, so I have to guess a state to use (I used the State of the bank). I wish it would let me see what the completed forms look like -- for example, I had to go around and around on entering Foreign Tax because it just wouldn't work right. I have Foreign tax from 2 instituions, and even though I entered the one with the highest value first, it didn't let me select that institution on the 2nd country value. I wanted to just go to the form and enter the data directly there, but wouldn't let me.
Also, this year I'm not seeing my tax rate (%) in the summary as I had in previous years. Miss that.
I've been using TurboTax for 10+ years and highly recommend it. TurboTax is user friendly with an easy to naviagate search feature and comprehensive support options.
Overall an easy and quick experience, HOWEVER, there is a major glitch regarding high deductible health insurance. It would not allow me to indicate I do not have a high deductible health insurance plan. It kept insisting I fill out the form (8899?) and state whether I had a high deductible health plan or used Medicare in certain months. The instructions on fixing this problem stated I could delete or remove the form, but there was no option to do so.
Disappointed that I was not allowed to use a veterans discount and was forced to pay $117 to file federal and state taxes. Disappointed that there was a $41.00 transaction fee to process my taxes as well.
