TurboTax if Fine, if Expensive

Reliable user interface. However, when I completed my Federal return, TurboTax said it could not yet file my state return, and that it would let me know when I could do that. I never got notification from TurboTax about the ability to file the State return. When I checked back, the State forms were enabled and submissible. That's a pretty big stumble for a relatively expensive service.
In my opinion, the primary reason I consistently return to TurboTax year after year is the convenience of utilizing their pre-existing tax information. However, I must acknowledge that TurboTax’s pricing structure is somewhat prohibitive, and I am not particularly fond of their advocacy for the elimination of free tax filing. Furthermore, it is possible for the government to implement this process independently, without the need for TurboTax, by directly mailing refunds or tax due notices to individuals. This approach would eliminate the annual inconvenience of spending two hours on TurboTax to manage these tasks.
This situation is akin to the construction of toll roads with the ostensible purpose of “paying off the road.” Once the road is fully funded, tolls continue to be levied, which seems unjust and unnecessary.
As a retired full charge bookkeeper and certified tax preparer I was familiar with multiple types of tax preparation software. I've been using Turbo Tax since filing my 2019 tax returns and I can say that the software gets easier to use and more user friendly each and every year.
