Process is more robust each year. I've been using TurboTax for more than a decade. This the first year I sold stocks and had to learn the process, but once I worked it a few times, the process was fine. And now I know!
some questions are confusing and the online help is not very helpful. Specifically, a 1099R form for an IRA withdrawals where state taxes were withheld had the state distribution blank, but turbotax would not allow it. I finally entered the gross distribution in the state distribution field even though it was not on the 1099R form to get by the error. Turbotax should default this if the field is blank. Also, the questions asking about the type of IRA, the next to last option is stated in the negative (No exclusion...for those over 59 1/2) when in fact those over 59 1/2 DO have an exclusion of the 10% penalty. please reword this option to state it in a positive way (e.g. For those over 59 1/2 that will not incur a 10% penalty for withdrawals)
