TurboTax was really easy to use. They walked through each step of the process and like on you can automatically draw in information from brokerage accounts. They do all the hard work!
Some of the questions asked should have been deemed unnecessary by the software in the initial background question and answer session. Layout of some screens wasn't as intuitive as I would have liked. The program said the process was estimated to take 1 hour and 40 minutes but the actual process was closer to 5 hours.
I wish I can give Turbo Tax Zero Stars. There are deceptive practices throughout the process. Even doing taxes with minimal complexity and using the standard deduction, you have to look VERY closely to ensure you don't accidentally purchase needless add on's that you don't need. For example, last year, we did have a few stock sales and went with the Turbo Tax MAX supplement as our taxes were a bit more complex last year. While trying to complete our return, Turbo Tax had Max included and the most prominent next step was to simply click "continue", which is consistent throughout the process. However, looking ever so closely, I had to click a very little box to ensure I was not charged the $69 for MAX. This is very deceptive and I took a video of this during the return process. I will reach out to my elected officials in my state. I think Turbo Tax is evil and you should be aware of your personal information as they use it and profit from it. That leads me to my next issue. I accidentally clicked allow Turbo Tax to use my return for training and I searched and searched to reverse this and there is nothing that allows me to do this.
