Way too expensive for a simple tax return. It should be I flat rate for returns not multiple rates to file the same return

Why can I not file my taxes for free? I do not have a mortgage or pay rent. I have not bought a car. I do not have a 401(k) all I have on my W-2s. I don’t understand why I have to pay $79 for my federal return and $39 for my state return. I just spent $143 on my taxes to get $400 back

If I’m doing my own taxes this should be free! If I wanted to pay to file my taxes I’d go to the tax preparer down the street and let them figure it out. Couple that with a convenience fee to pay with my card, this is nonsense!
