I am so disappointed about the changes from last year. Sure the intrusive upgrade prompts were annoying, but now they are incredibly intrusive. To top that off, I have a fairly simple return, but they prompted me with questions about my husband's legal resident status. Additionally, several questions did not have the traditional ability to get more information. And several fields which were pre-filled in previous years did not have that information -- all to get me to have them import it (it required two clicks to select I'll type it in myself) I have used TurboTax for over 10 years, but every year their self promotion of additional services has had an affect on me, which leads me to think I will do it myself next year. I really liked TurboTax, but the irritation now outweighs the convenience for me.
I'd rate it at a Zero stars if I could. Horrendous experience. I've used Turbo-tax for years... and never had a problem. It seems that you've no decided to make the program not work this year for somewhat common situations.
2 major issues: Your very instructions on how to add 2 different kinds of "Other Income" does not work. It says "Navigate to Income Section: Goto "Wages & Income" section. Select "Other Income."
The "Other Income" button does not exist. It took a call to customer service to find out how to navigate to where I was allowed to enter this information.
Then it provided information on how to add sweepstakes and legal settlements - both of which did not work - even after customer service directed me to the right place.
In the end - the sweepstakes money got entered on Schedule 1 line 8z instead of its designated location of 8i. In the past turbo tax entered sweepstakes income on line 8i
A much more major issue is that after paying for turbo tax I was allowed to view the actual tax forms to look for errors. I found a 5 dollar error; and per the instructions I returned and corrected it.
But then Turbo-tax would absolutely not allow me to progress with the review and file without my paying for "Max services" which I had declined up front. I spent about an hour with customer service while we tried to figure out how to get past having to pay for something I had not purchased and just verifying that the tax forms were correct, and then file them.
The customer service supervisor finally came up with a fix after about an hour and on my 3rd sign-out and sign-in to my account.
Overall, I spent several hours talking to 3 different customer service agents... where in previous years I never had to call customer service even once.
Get your act together - you can at least make your instructions accurate on how to do things. And once paid the "pay" screen should never pop up again.
My experience was ok, but last year I helped someone do their taxes with turbo tax adn turbo tax didn't get them the best refund. The IRS mailed them an explanation of more credits they were entitled to that turbo tax missed.
