Compared to previous years, this year was disappointing. I couldn't figure out how to do it for free, it costed more than stated, and it wouldn't let me pay now to make it cheaper. I'm going to file somewhere else next year.
what was the point of telling me it was going to be $49 then charge me for filing state.... then another fee for sending me the money.... you said was the $0 option, 49 turned to 128
Overall process was easy. Certain state taxes are not consistently reported so were difficult to enter properly. there is no scroll bar on the webpage so navigation is more difficult than it should be
I think have been using TurboTax since about 1990, maybe earlier. I think the product is great. I do have two issues: 1. The constant nagging to up-sell me to a more expensive filing fee. Your product can pretty easily see that I file a simple tax return and I'll probably not benefit with any add-ons. Maybe ask me once? Twice? And that brings me to my second issue. 2. My tax situation would allow me to file free. But if I login to TurboTax and use my account it seems I can't file for free. I login to have my personal information populated and have my suggested income, deductions, etc. populated with reminders for what I used last tax year. So, I do get a benefit having an account, and that is worth some payment; but I think the price for this convenience could/should be less expensive than any normal filing. Maybe a "long-time user" discount?
TurboTax has a superb user interface, and I think walks through preparing my return in a very logical manner. The help topics are easy to get to and appropriately suggested. I did compare TurboTax with a competitive product a few years ago as an experiment, but found that product not nearly as intuitive or helpful. So even though I started with a competitor's product I actually completed and filed with TurboTax.
I am loyal to this product. I've used Intuit products since the initial rollout of Intuit financial products in the early-1980's. So I am not going to stop using this product... I will hope that a solution can be found for filers with simple returns that save a few bucks.
