Unwanted upcharges

I am usually pleased with turbo tax however I feel like there are too many places where they try and get you to upgrade. I thought may taxes were going to cost $39 until the very end where $44 was added and I could find no way to not choose this extra fee. A little deceptive considering the very low tax return I was getting already.
