Are there any better tax sites out there? Everyone says this is the best. I don't know what I'm doing. Not all of us had parents who taught us and real life isn't taught in schools. Nor does everyone have the funds for an advisor. Every year I read through every bit of information on there. The prompt asks for investing information, I enter in my Roth IRA and wonder if I need to add the interest on the savings account I have through the same platform. Well what do you know, it then tells me straight up if you accrued more than $10 you must report it. I accrued $17, so I reported it. But even though I checked the information on the 1099 probably a dozen times, because turbotax is zero help with finding out whats wrong with the documents without paying for help, I could not continue forward. I tried some more and it told me at this point I need to pay for the $39 upgrade. Mind you, my return is an entire one-hundred and forty eight dollars...$148. Sigh, alright. I select the upgrade, and it gets me...absolutely nowhere. Same document errors, no direction. F it, I guess I'll go to jail over $17. I deleted the documents and then continue and "congrats on your federal refund of $159!" Oh wonderful. That was an entire two hours of my life when it should have been 30 minutes tops. The best part, there's a $40 processing fee to take the money out of the federal return. Nice! My whopping $159 became $80 real quick. Had I known that I would have paid with a card, although I am certain there are fees tacked on to that as well. Wasn't going back though, not after all that, you can keep your $40 pity money for us working class. Thank you to turbotax for the lovely service and thank you to our US government for the generous reward of $80 for the hard efforts I put into the work place and still get close to a third of it taken for taxes anyways. It's almost as good as the annual grocery store pizza party your work place gets in place of raises. Almost (: Maybe I'll go buy half a flame resistant shirt for work where I help produce power for the state.
